    The vast majority of 8 1/2' Shakespeare glass rods were designed to cast 7 or 8 weight lines.
    If it is indeed heavy with a stout butt section I would think it's going to prefer an eight weight....

    Not saying for sure it's a Quill Gordon, just very similar.

    Looks a lot like a Quill Gordon (Epeorus pleuralis) to me. The Adams would be a good imitation.
    Hard to tell and a #16 would be too small for the Gordon. It's normally a #12.

    I totally agree with you about Steffen's tapers.

    I own a custom built 7'9" 3/4 3 piece rod and I can't imagine a better glass rod in that configuration.
