Any difference in taste between stockers and wild fish?
Don't keep fish to begin with, so was just wondering...
Ditto on thramer. He makes a mind boggling-ly large selection of rods. Any taper you can think of.
I have the 2.75 for 4wt line.
Decent reel. Got it new, and spool was a little wobbly...+when I changed drag direction, had a heck of a time getting it to stay.
Honestly, in that price range, I...
Went pike fishing for the first time this weekend. Went around the Choteau (MT) area. Lots of pike filled lakes up there. We got up to our first stop on Saturday night and fished for four hours. ...
GusG-I don't know if you should discount ross just because of the Cimarron.
I have 2 evolutions, and their drags and machining are top notch.
Brad Befus at Ross is absolutely excellent to deal with...
Cool. I have seen koi on a local pond-very spooky.

I like the TFO TicrX, and have it in a 9' 6wt. It's really fast, which is kind of hard in the summer, because I also like to fish cane as much as possible. It's really a cannon and can shoot some...
I don't know if any current makers make penta's. I think Uslan made a fair number of five sided rods.

To be frank-not really. The cane is not Tonkin(as is found in most rods) it a blondish Japanese cane that is quite inferior to tonkin. Really noodely and prone to sets.

Bob-great posts!!!
Thanks for the informative view.
A new montana fly fishing forum just started. I am not affiliated with it, but it has some great montana river news, etc. PM me if you would like details.
I don't want to detract from this great...
Interesting!! Never heard of them before.
Thanks for all the condolences. :D After half an hour of prying, I did finally get the reel of the reelseat. And it was a good day fishing...I have a mint HI Tonka Queen, 7'9" 2 tips that I suppose...
I fished the Gallatin yesterday with my younger brother. It was a nice day, in the mid 60's and the water was still quite low with good visibility. We caught a fair number of small rainbows, and...
Looks great Dleo!!
Nice finish work. After three years, I think I have finally gotten mine down pretty good.

It really is great! I absolutely love fishing the area streams around late march through late april. Early may is beginning of runoff.
I feel quite blessed to have the streams around bozeman at my...
Great post!
I too didn't think it was possible, till I was fishing one of my favorite brown trout rivers here in Montana, tied on a size 8 balsa poppper and proceeded to catch 2 nice browns. It was...
Ross is the epitomy (sp) of a great reel manufacturer. They have excellent cust. service, and treat outdoor professionals excellently. I have 2 Evolutions and a cimarron, and I absolutely love 'em....
I buy hooks in bulk 1000 packs for decent prices. Hackle prices despite wholesale prices are still up there, and for that reason, I try to stick mainly to nymphs.I have numerous fly tying drawers...
As someone who has had their own fly website for the past two years, I can say this: It is extremely difficult. There are those that say it will not take the fun out of recreational tying for...
I just fished my granger champion 8.5' 7 wt fiberglass with uplocking original reelseat on the Madison. It was a joy to nymph with and mended very well. It's even slower than some of the cane rods I...
