Hi, all.
If any of you have a spare SOLID spool for the original (Etna, CA) Ross R-series reels (in sizes 1, 2, or 3) that you're willing to part with, I'd be appreciative if you thought of me.

Hi, all.
If any of you have a spare SOLID spool for the original (Etna, CA) Ross R-series reels (in sizes 1, 2, or 3) that you're willing to part with, I'd be appreciative if you thought of me.
That's why I live here! :D
It doesn't hurt to have the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park with trophy fishing just outside "city" limits. And I can harass trout in town on the Uncompahgre...
1) International child adoption.
2) Bamboo rod acquisition.
For your consideration . . . :)
All rods shipped/insured for $20 to lower 48; Paypal accepted; otherwise USPS money order please.

I'm interested in learning more about T&T's LPS and Paradigm series rods.
Is the Paradigm slower in action than the LPS? I can't quite tell from the website.
What makes someone get one vs. the...
I cleaned my first cork grip every last night with a tooth brush, warm water, and Ivory bar soap.
It took away 30 years of grime and made the cork grip (and cork reel seat) like new. :D
I...
I just cleaned my first cork grip ever on a rod tonight after reading the various posts; the cork had become slippery smooth and dark gray due to 3 decades of "mojo" collecting.
At first, I tried...
Brookies? Short, 2 wt rod?
The answer is glass, more specifically, the Hardy Aln (5'0" 2 wt).
I've never heard of the special edition Sage LL "Scott G" model, which is odd since I live in the same town that Scott produces their rods!
I use a Yakima ski carrier (got mine for $10 shipped on ebay) in the warmer months to hop between various areas of a stream (at relatively slow speed) and RodMounts during the winter...
Curious to know what your favorites are in this well-regarded series?
Mine? 389LL. Great tailwater rod. The most capable 3 wt I've ever fished. :D
Depends on my mood. :D
I went from a vest to a Patagonia Double Haul pack. I like that it's modular and can adapt to different fishing situations.

Action. I like slower to medium action rods. Cane rods tend to be in this range; so does fiberglass. And that's why most of my quiver consists of boo & glass.
Artistry. I love things made from...
I guess the fish I chase aren't quite as cooperative as yours. Some fish, especially while nymphing, do hook themselves. But when dry fly fishing, I often have to do more than just "tighten the...
I imagine it would be tough to set the hook at 90'; well, at least for me, that is. :D
Regarding the gentleman in the video dropping/tossing his rod/reel, he obviously has the right to do whatever he wants with his equipment. But seeing that sends a chill up my OCD spine, akin to...
I agree. Mike McFarland is a gentlemen and produces top notch rod taper w/ superb crafsmanship. I have only experience w/ his glass rods but hear positive things about his graphite rods as well.
Impressive casting!
I like how he drops his very expensive rod/reel onto the concrete and then later throws the outfit onto the lawn.
He must have spares!

Fancy meeting you here as well. :)
I recently picked up a Winston DL4 8'6" 4 wt, thinking it would be med-slow based on others' descriptions; in my hand it feels med-fast, a little...
imo, it's all good: boo, glass, and graphite. No "dark side" rods in my quiver, and there are examples of each.
jchanner - cheers from Montrose. :D
Fly Goddess - I'm "docbluedevil" as well at FFR. Are you active there lately?
Dave
Well said. Action description sure is relative. The faster rods get these days, the slower my "medium" rods become. In the glass community, we often talk about "fast for glass" which is...
Since I'm new here, I gotta ask. What's considered the "dark side" here on the forum? Bamboo?
Over on the fiberglass flyrodders forum, the "dark side" would be graphite (but not all of them!). :)
Hi, all. I'm new here and appreciate the great info on this site. I'm an active member of the fiberglass flyrodders forum and predominantly fish glass rods for trout here in western Colorado.
But...
