    Re: Cleaning/polishing nickel silver question

    Success!

With a combination of Mag Eyes, Never Dull, a small steel brush, an Exacto knife, a nickel silver polishing cloth, and a lot of patience, I did a deep cleaning and then polished.

    Good...

    Re: Question on bamboo

    Rocky,

You can buy rods with only one tip.

You can bet that if and when you break it, you will say, "dang, I wish I had that second tip."

It will ruin your day for sure, not counting the...

    Cleaning/polishing nickel silver question

I re-worked some of my reel seats with new wood but salvaged the old nickel silver components.

I removed the old seat piece by piece by heating the nickel silver with a candle and whacking the old...

    Wrapping a green blank

I have a beautiful green blank that is not much different than a Winston in color.

I need some ideas about what shades of thread to wrap it.

I will use 4 turns of silver thread as tipping, as...

    Re: Roe tippet dispenser

Thanks, I sent an email to see what happens.

Those phone numbers are no good.

Google does not respond, either, with anything up to date.

    Roe tippet dispenser

    Are they still in business?

I wanted to order some spare parts, but they seem to have disappeared, no toll free number, web site, or anything like that.

I thought they had a good product and...

    Why are kayaks so popular?

It is just my opinion, but these things are awful to fish from. I use mine for traveling up and down a slow river, but fishing from one is like fishing from a battleship. You can't stop it on a...

Re: Oaring question for Hobie Cat 75 owners

I use a trolling motor with my 75 and would not leave home without it. All of the things you fear are nothing compared to the benefits. Time? What is another 20 seconds? Weight? You never feel...

    Re: why no 3-piece rods

I am a fan of 3 piece 8' rods, which narrows the market even more.

I think 3 pieces is a good compromise between overly bulky 2 pieces and overly ferruled 4 pieces, which adds weight to the...

    Uplocking vs downlocking reel seat

This is a follow up to the ceramic vs chrome guide post.

I am building a new rod, an 8' 4wt Loomis. I have on hand both uplocking and downlocking reel seats, Struble 25's.

    What would be your...

    Ceramic guides vs. chrome

I am building a new rod, an 8' 4wt Loomis. I have on hand both single foot chrome guides as well as ceramic single foot guides.

What are the pros and cons?

I am leaning toward the plain chrome...

    Rio Clouser

I just received my new Rio Clouser in 4 wt.

I have not fished it yet, but it seems that it might be good for tossing regular flies into the wind.

Has anyone tried this line yet?

    Hackle question

I am having trouble telling the shiny side from the dull side of a hackle. They look the same to me.

Is the shiny part on the outside or inside of the natural curve of the hackle?
