Round Rock (just north of Austin)
do most of my trout fishing on the White in Arkansas and in Montana.
Netflix also has a dvd titled "Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish". Sounds right up the alley of the original poster.
A couple of years ago my brother-in-law and I took a late october trip to the white river in arkansas. If you were to see us together next to each other its like a scene out of that movie...

I bought a cheap rod-rack for the inside of my explorer, I think it was from the Cabela's website....cost around $30 if I remember right.
It was every bit of $30 cheap, and fell apart soon after...
Probably right guys, it probably was a chubb. They were small fish (less than 10 inches) and fought almost like a rainbow. I couldn't tell a difference really until I got them in closer.
Still,...
Well I'm not really sure what kind of carp it was, I'm not exactly a carp officianodo. It was dark grey with a white belly. When I was cradling it to loosen the hook, its sucker mouth was still...
Was fishing the White River in Cotter last week for rainbows/cuts/browns, and caught 2 carp...i know some people like em but all I could think was 'ewwww'.
They were both small compared to the...
JMako,
You should do fine with a 4/5/6 wt. I typically fish a 5 Wt on the white. a 7 wt would really only be necessary if you're planning on going after monster browns.
Alas, I have not had...
I am in the St Louis area this week (St Charles county) and would like to find a place nearby to do some flyfishing for trout. Can anyone give me some ideas?
Thanks in advance!
There is a very good discussion about trout and fly color in the book "What the Trout Said" by Datus Prosper. I will summarize - color is important!
But as far as a color they don't recognize, I...
I am fairly new to FlyFishing (started back in 2002) so my first rod won't be anything 'ancient'.
My first Fly Fishing trip back then was to Bozeman to fish the 'big western rivers' in Montana, so...
Dang Salmon Fly...I ordered the book from amazon before I saw your link...no biggie though, I bought another book with it to get free shipping so I think I came out better than the auction...
KPH and JC - thanks, the Micropatterns book looks interesting. I will look into it.
Tyflier - great info, thank you. Interesting idea about using the straight-eye hooks, as I didnt think about...
Has anyone read the book Fishing Small Flies by Ed Engle? Did a search on the forum and didn't get any matches. I'd like to get some insight into this type of fishing and in the fly-fishing world...
Brian,
I was able to locate them at my WalMart on the north side of Austin.
They were near the pharmacy, in those baskets with the 'travel' stuff - containers for soap, etc. They had them in...
Brian,
Haven't checked yet...I am in the Austin/Round Rock area. Will be heading out Wally World way this evening and will let you know if I find some.

LL Bean studded aquastealth are solid boots. Worn them for 4 yrs now and haven't slipped since having them. Highly recommended, and they're comfortable, too.
There is an online journal called FLOG (google it, you'll find it) that shows great promise, however its not yet been released. I've signed up to get an email when its available, but I've been on...
Here's a review of a book for you, a book which I recommend you NOT read.
Having read many many books on flyfishing, I came across a book in my local big box book store that I hadn't hear of...
nuthatch --
I have those boots from LLBEAN and they are awesome. The only thing I would say is - do you ever get guided or fish from a boat where you might wade later in the day? You dont want...
