I agree with several points here particularly with the getting real tackle as opposed to the snoopy/barbie rods. My youngest daughter really wanted one so I got her one and the thing is difficult to...

Re: What's Your Favorite Fishing Hat?

I wear a Lochsa River Straw hat from Orvis. It adjustable, crushproof, floats and holds its shape well when wet. It's also got a chin cord and sweatband. I love this hat!

Re: Need idea for Koi flies??

I enjoy catching carp very much but haven't found a place to catch koi (except for this Chinese restaurant I know but I'm sure they would dislike me dropping a line in their pool for one) :( .

Re: Why are kayaks so popular?

Depending on the depth and flow of the river, the kayak can be a helpful transport from location to location though I normally don't fish in it in moving water but prefer to wade. I find it far...

    Re: Go-to rod?

For bass, I prefer to take out the Sage 8' 6" 4wt XP but if it will be mainly brim/sunfish/bluegill it will be the 7' 10" 2wt TXL.

  16. Re: Are trout flies just as effective as panfish flies?

I just came back from fishing a little park lake for an hour and probably caught about 15 greenies and red breasts on a size #14 foam beetle, #16 orange humpy, #16 elk hair caddis, and #16 PMD. I had...
  17. Are trout flies just as effective as panfish flies?

One of my favorite species to go after since I started fly fishing are brim/bluegill/panfish/sunfish or whatever you call them. Ounce-per-ounce they are great fighters.

Now, when I started I used...

I think one of the reasons that Matagorda is good is due to the mud. It warms up well and retains heat. So if you can find mud, maybe you'll run into a gator trout willing to take your fly. Baffin...
