double taper line is a necessity in my opinion for rollcasting.
I use a double taper line matched to the rod weight on all my rods which is close to being the same as overlining your rod. Works great for me.
Not to fond of putting the fly gear in the salt water but I have gone striper fishing a few times with no luck. I have caught cod in the Bras D'or lakes(salt water) in the spring on the fly and I...
Thanks for sharing!
Wow is right!
Hey reactionfly
I am from Sydney as well. Love to surf the pages here on FAOL. Nice folks.
I live in Nova Scotia and fish for Atlantic salmon. Here we only swing wets or dead drift dries. No weight is allowed. I have fished for steelhead and there is an uncanny similarity between steelhead...
Is that brook in St. John's?
Great news. I totally agree that he is one of the best writers on fishing. Very entertaining.
Midges and Chironomids are the same? Aren't they?
I am glad you like it.
Sorry. Try this.

Great info thanks. There is a reel with it that I have to get a hold of to look at. I am curious as to what weight line the rod is made for.
Thanks again

I just noticed the cloth bag for it says Power glass so maybe it is a glass rod. Goes to show how much I know about bamboo.
My friend has a bamboo rod his mother owned. It was likely used for atlantic salmon here on Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia. If anyone has any info about it that would be much appreciated.
I know...
If you are a novice caster you may find it easier to cast and feel a 6 weight line. It will load the rod easier being heavier.
For brookies in Cape Breton Nova Scotia my top five would be:
Orange buck bug
Elk hair caddis
Light/ Dark Spruce
Muddler minnow
Small black compra dun or haystack
I guided a gentleman not long ago who had a 7'4" sage 4 weight. It felt lighter then a 4 weight. I think it was called a center axis. You need a sage reel as well because there was no butt or...
Maybe they were full????
I saw something amazing the other night. The moon was almost full and I drove out of a thundershower and there was a moon rainbow. It was a grey line shaped like a rainbow across the horizon. Has...
Someone said earlier look for them in the cover and I would have to agree. You can pull big brookies out of 3-4 inches of water if there is appropriate cover. The bigger fish will hold at the bottom...
I know you can get the plain aqua stealth soles from ll bean. I bought a kit with the soles and glue and everything for my chota boots.
I use that knot too. As a guide I needed to find a simple strong knot to connect leader to line. That one does the trick. I have landed several large atlantic salmon with that knot and never had one...
This is the only shop I have seen up that way. It is in Canmore, about 1/2 hour from Banff.
