Thanks again Steve. I'm just an angler who has a computer in his basement and knows how to put a book together. I'd love to help someone get something in print. www.westslopepublishing.com

Thank you Steve! I really appreciate hearing that. Merry Christmas.
Hi all - longtime member here, but it's been a longtime since I've participated. I hope everyone is doing well and having a Merry Christmas! Anyhow, I recently started a new endeavor of publishing...
So, how old was you? 25
What kind of rod did you have? 9 foot, two-piece Cortland cheapie
Where did you go? Gallatin River in the valley
Who with? buddy who was also just learning.
What...
Great stuff! Thanks very much!
Normand: That's perfect. Thank you. What a beautiful rod.
Betty Hiner: Thanks! Those sound like great ideas!
I'd love to do that, but that's maybe just a bit out of the price range I was thinking. Thanks tho!
Does anyone have any good ideas for a fly-fishing-related gift for a newborn? I have some friends who just had a baby, and (while it's kinda cheesy) I like to give fly fishing gifts to the children...
Those forest service cabins are awesome - very rustic tho. They have wood-burning stoves and outhouses, no power/water (with a couple exceptions, i believe). The biggest problem with using them for a...
I've fished it twice and caught fish both times - and I certainly don't consider myself a great (most of the time not even good) fly fisherman. If all else fails, black woolly buggers work here too....
Maybe Huey Lewis isn't such a bad guy - he's created himself a seriously bad name around here for the Mitchell Slough ordeal. I'm not used to flyfishers speaking fondly of him.
I've seen callibaetis around the lower Gallatin River. There is the tiny chance that they blew in from a nearby stillwater, but I highly doubt it.
Great information! I appreciate it!
Does anyone know the temperature salmonflies need to hatch? I've read mid-50s over and over, but that doesn't make any sense cuz it hits the mid-50s on many salmonfly rivers here in sw montana in...
Is it different to write about a specific water in a magazine article than to post about it on an internet forum? Virtually every issue of every fishing magazine ever has at least one "where to"...
I saw the original letter, then the next issue when the entire 'letters' section was dedicated to bashing me. But I did get a little support in the most recent 'letters' section. And I've received...
I've read it from time to time, and I cannot stand it. It's "grunge" design is painful to look at and it's just way too hipster for me. But that's just my opinion.
I've fished mine to the end of its life and then some (still have it on). I like it - it casts bigger flies well and makes it easy to go indicatorless when needed. I am going to pick up another...
I like it.
Merry Christmas!
Really makes me realize my good fortune when I list them all.
I caught trout, grayling, and whitefish.
Montana (in no particular order):
Beaverhead River
Big Hole River
Lower Madison River...
All right. That helps. Thanks very much.
That's interesting. I appreciate the input.
I'm pretty much a rookie rod builder for the record, but, has anyone ever had a Scott blank where they marked the spine in the wrong place? I think they did on mine, but as a rookie, there's a good...
The lower Gallatin looks about that like too. Ice from high-water mark to high-water mark. A week ago, it had the tiniest hint of ice shelves. Now it's overtaken the riverbed with just a trickle...
There's a chance the Gallatin River in the Gallatin Valley (towards Belgrade and Manhattan) will be fishable, and I think it's a good winter fishery (when the ice isn't covering it - which it is...
