Duckst, an interesting question.
Operator error may show differently with differing rod action. I'd even hesitate to say error, as it may just be not adapting the stroke to the different rod...
JC, I'll take that as a yes to both questions. ;)
B Blake, the best description of the cast I know of is in Gary Borger's "Presentation". He talks about producing the video "Fly Casting with Lefty...
JC, you ignored the rod-tip path question.8)'
(Did you not want to be argumentative and tell them that it is the foundation of a good standard cast? And that one of the reasons for the...
Or a tuck cast, especially in faster water.

JC, thanks - it was that 10-10:30 stop I was wanting you to comment on and "Where I stop is a variable depending on many factors" pretty much nails it.
For a moderate length cast, 10:30 is the...

Joe, I usually say that the haul hand should mimic the casting hand. Long cast, long stroke, long haul. Short cast, short stroke, short haul. So yours sounds OK.
The haul is susceptible to...
Lotech, are ya trying to have some fun with me? http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/wink.gif Actually, you can get line speed without loading the rod - try JC's broomstick or just don't use a rod at...
Contrary to a major ff myth, the haul's purpose is NOT to load the rod.

FWIW, i'd say
For the intermediate caster, 2nd most common mistake is using too short a stroke for the length of line being cast. Christopher, I'd guess you might be ranking tailing loops as #1....
Thanks guys. I will have some time & could do full day trip, but not overniter. Also interested in quicker nearby opps.
My son is living there now & I anticipate future trips. This one is not a...
I'll be in Seattle 5/7-5/11.
Fishing suggestions?
Thanks-

Harrisnmo, I'd pass on the haul into the backcast - no need for it as the extra heavy head will load the rod just fine and you don't need much linespeed to backcast the 20-30' of head. In fact,...
Tex, I'd use a surgeon's loop. It's well over 90% strong. The perfection is appreciably less - if you were tying it in heavy butt section, even then it's much stronger than tippet. But tied in 10-12...
Nothing wrong with a straight light tippet if it work - and it does in some situations. But don't use a perfection loop to attach it. The Perfection is a fairly weak knot - OK when used in heavy butt...
