Glad to hear it arrived, Betty! Hope it catches fish!
Jim,
The rod you sent is going with me to the bluegill get together next month. I'm going to see how it handles some panfish.

Mine arrived today from Jim Flamming. Very nice build, Jim!
Mine hit the PO today. It should be there for Betty when she gets back into town.
Mine should go out Monday, too.
We're using Batson E-glass spinning blanks that are 6 1/2' long. They make a short 4 weight, and the whole build is happening for $30-$40. Cheap rods, and they cast nice, too.
I use Krylon Krystal Klear on any inscriptions, because I had the ink react with the finish on my first rod. The clear coat will seal the ink or paint from the finish, and it is better to be safe...
When it rains, it pours!
Perhaps some hot sauce guide wraps might help as a training tool! If that doesn't work, you can think of it as an internal marinade for the dog tacos.
Yep, I got ahead of myself. Not a few days...a month and a few days! Ugh! Sorry I gave you a panic!
The suspense is horrible..in a good way. :D
I test cast mine this morning. It was a different casting stroke than I am used to, but nice all the same. It won't take power like some of the rods I'm used to, but if you stay with a light even...
Look for the straight axis and tie with that. If it looks good, the owner will like it better. I don't think spine has any effect on casting.
In your case, if you can't find it, it can't really be...
As long as it casts nice, that is the most important feature.
And I'm glad I screwed up and glued up the handle on the wrong part of a 4 piece rod and not a 2 piecer. That would have been even...
I finally got the last coat of finish on mine. I tried using the last of my flexcoat light on it and I'm not terribly happy with the finish. I will stick to the regular flexcoat in the future. I'm...
I did mine that way. One section is a bit longer, but it really isn't an issue IMO. Otherwise, you have to go with the metal ferrules. Not really that expensive either.
I know this is late, but if anyone is having problems with guide spacing on a shorter blank, look at schneiders rods spacing chart (highlight the chart to see the numbers)...
I will second that. A great product. I used a metallic pen and put my name on it with a 4/5 weight designation.
I put the decal that came with it on the rod. I think it will help if anyone wants to duplicate the action many years from now. I'm not sure if I'm going to put my name on it or not...
Shouldn't be a problem. The finish is probably fine. If you are concerned, mix up a small batch and test it out.
If you are using Sulky metallic thread (which your picture sort of looks like),...
Thanks. I gave it the wiggle test tonight, and I think these are going to be neat little fly rods. I might have to go do a yard cast or 2 tomorrow.

I think it will look pretty sharp...
I'm about ready for adding finish, so I'm going to post some preliminary pictures. I wrapped my rod with black metallic thread, trimmed with 2 wraps of silver metallic. The seat is black aluminum,...
I had the same problem. I ordered tiptops based on the rod spec, and they were too small. Fortunately, I had a ceramic top that would fit.
Shouldn't be a problem...BUT (my turn :-D) I think the rod is probably not as scary, and this IS a family friendly site.
That was my next question. If we are going to post pictures, I will post pics when mine is done.
April 15 sounds good to me. I had some time today, so I got started. I have the spigot installed, the handle glued up, tiptop installed, all of the guides placed and all but 3 guides wrapped along...
If you are talking spigot ferrule, I'd personally use the solid. I just think you're better off using the stronger option.
I bought an ice rod blank to use as a ferrule, and it is solid glass and...
