Re: fly fishing on a budget

    Joe,

When I started I purchased this set. I was discouraged that I could not cast. The rod was ok. It was the flyline. I am not an elitist. Elitist's don't buy $20 line. Your statements are...

You have obviously never watched JC cast the Wally World combo (Scientific Angler Combo). If you had, you would retract your last sentence. Actually, it's more likely the discouragement will come...

Re: fly fishing on a budget

I would also suggest not getting the vest. Take the $20 and buy some better line for the flyrod. The wally world flyline would likely discourage the user.

    Re: Snakes on the water

    Rusty,

Your son should not be concerned about his manhood on this one. He is being smart. If any snake, poisionous or not, got within a few feet of me in the water, I definitely would be...

    Re: Snakes on the water

I have seen a banded type water snake in the Hiwassee. They do stock the Hiwassee, and there are many larger holdovers. Congratulations to your son.

    Re: Which Loop Knot?

I don't know which is strongest, but I have discovered that the duncan loop works best for me on tippet loop knots. After some practice, I have become comfortable with this knot.

    Re: "Elitists' Sport"

Perception is often the problem. You may be perceived as a snob simply because of your appearance. Wearing waders, vest, wading boots, and net is enough to make you appear a snob to those that do...

    Re: A Newbie's Journey

I too have trouble getting the tippet through the eye of the hook. You may want to also consider threader boxes. C&F makes a very good one, works for me.

    Re: Do Salamanders eat fish?

Here's a link to information about the ones in my area streams. I researched after seeing one in the river. It was very BIG (maybe 2 ft long)!

Carrying bear spray - On the wader belt?

The container is about 2" by 9".

Does the holster carry well on a wader belt?

Thinking about purchasing, want to know the...

Anyone use this knot for fly to tippet? I am looking for an easy to tie open loop for nymphs. If you are aware of any internet sites that show how this knot is tied, I would like to know.

    Thanks
