I'm bumping this up for RDL
I've been pre-treating my thread leaders with floatant before twisting and furling. The above discribed method of furling DOES NOT work on them!!:( They are too sticky so I still hang them with the...
I no longer hang my leaders to furl. I have a snap swivel on the end of a dowel just lift the twisted legs off the end peg and give them some slack.
This takes a lot of time out of the furling...
Paddy;
PM me your mailing address and I'll send a couple your way.:mrgreen:
Okie;
I feel that the Vanish "Transition" sinks the best of any flurocarbon lines I've tried. I have used the regular Vanish and I just doesn't compare.
Kathy;
It was great to see you and Dave...
Duckster;
Bottom of page 20. 38", 41", 41"
The mono leader was 18" - 20" start and end loops so it came out 12/10/8/6
I'm going to build one out of Vanish this way today.
Robin;
Kathy Scott builds some Spey furled leaders. She and Dave are heading back to Maine Sunday so maybe she'll pop in here with her formula.
John, I normally only use 7' furled leaders. The attempt to make one 9' was at the request of a friend in Colorado (and to see if I could do it).
This morning I laid one out using 4# test Berkley...
Doug;
I'll have you know that I had Christmas dinner with our "Patron Saint of Furled Leaders", Kathy Scott. A grand and gracious lady that has tasked me to carry the on the word of the "Furled...
I slightly modified Warren's formula and just made one of 4.4# test mono. I like it, casts very well (by it's self in the livingroom)!! God I'm good!! Now if I can only get JC to endorse my...
Ivan;
The thread was 6/0 Uni tying thread
The fluorocarbon is 4# test Berkly Vanish "Transition"
Both will have a break strength of approx. 12 lb.
Thanks Warren
Joe I'll just add a splint...
Thanks Doug.
Now I need a formula for 9' furled leaders. A friend of mine in CO is interested in them.
Ivan;
4# test works well overall.
Ok! This thread has been quiet for awhile but I have to know! How many of your fishin' buddies are going to get furled leaders for Christmas?
Gnu Bee;
Glad to here you're up and running on the furling board. What length leaders have you made?
Marco;
You must be careful what you spell here. I really did think you had "Seen the Light" and was ready to accept you into the fold. However, as you are about to become a "User" (almost the same...
Marco;
Once you get the hang of it about 15 minutes or less. One trick is to furl up 3 or 4 and then sit down and do the Shorb Loops.
Do you have a "Knit Picker"? If you can't find one at...
Yes I leave the board in the horizontal position.
To save wear and tear on my old back I build my leaders on the kitchen counter, just the right height!
I tried to post some photos of the tool and how to but the forum won't let me!?
I made a tool by attaching a large snap swivel to a hook in a peice of 3/4" dowel. I clip the snap around the tippet...
WOOO HAAA!!
I just furled my second leader with out hanging it with the weight!!
While fishing Saturday Warren told me of his experiance of hooking a snap swivel at the tippet end of the V and...
SMC;
No inturuption at all just some more fuel for thought!
Marco;
Now there is an offer you can't refuse!! And, you better be using them at the Michigan Fish-In!! Hmmmmm.......Have to work on Ron to make the trip to Grayling!!
Marco;
I will teach you the Shorb Loop at the MI Fish-In. Then you can start making dainty little things for around the house. I'll even bring the Knit Picker.
"Do Real Men Make Shorb...
1500 yds. = 75 leaders. $6.00 - 40% = 0.048 cents per leader. Add a 90 cent (With Shipping) tippet ring + 36 cents worth of Vanish = a buck 30 and then sell them for $12.00 each. Cost of materials...
Oh Oh!! I think Gnu Bee has gone South with the furled leader construction! :(
GB, I apply the floatant before furling.
The test and the 6 end would be 6.
There are so many monos out there...
