And here I thought I was the only one in this world to pre-make their tippits and place them in small plastic bags, only I use a perfection loop and the one end.

Never heard of a PMQ.......you learn something new every day :)
bazakwardz,
From my understanding of making bamboo rods, it requires all of the same tools and forms to build a quad as it does to build a hex. I understand also that it is no easier making a quad...
Bob Nunley, a well respected rod maker, sometimes jumps onto FAOL and he could give you some good insight.
I too have considered making my own cane rods, after retirement. If I had the money I...
I have both. I use the neoprene in winter because they are warm and because I have them. Once they wear out I will NOT me replacing them with.
To me the biggest drawback to neoprens is the feeling...
I'm also with the crowd that first throws a popper.
Very cool video 8)
You just got to love it when a trout comes out of the water with your fly!

Nat Uslan did not make any 3 piece rods in the 70's. So that would date your rod back to his earlier days after WW II when he made both 2 and 3 piece rods.
Scott
Deezel,
Do I detect sarcasm in your tone of voice? :D
If the grant works out for him, I want to be hired as an assistant :)

Nat Uslan made 5 sided bamboo rods and had gone into business shortly after world war II. He and his business partners went out of business sometime in the 50's because of the China embargo and...
I have seldom throut hooked a trout. The only exception to that is fishing with a fly tied on a # 32 hook. It seems that even trout have a hard time detecting that the fly is artificial. Bass are a...
I keep the line between my index and middle finger. I then reel in slack as quickly as possible so that I can fight him off the reel. If the fish goes on a run before I get the slack out he will most...
Ive heard of a guy who takes a section of bamboo, files a point on it and drives it through a board just to prove the strength of it!
My very first fish caught on a bamboo rod was a 19" FAT...
I taught my 8 y.o. grandson this summer on a 7' 4wt cane rod and he did just fine. For his birthday I bought him a Cabela's traditional 7'-6" 4 wt and again he did well with it. I think anything...
I have a Stetson fedora that belonged to my father and it's my favorite fishing hat. The one Brad Pitt wears is not the same...it's brim is too large and it's more plain than the traditional fedora...
I've been fishing with the "Blue Sky" brand and also have become a BIG FAN.
Mine are 5'8" long but would like to find some shorter ones for fishing brookies when I like to keep the leader shorter....
I read an online article a year or so ago (actually several articles) where a guy did a test in a swimming pool wearing waders and said he was able to swim about just fine with the waders filled...
I don't own a rod by D R Stone (as mentioned above) but I can tell you his rods are very well received over on "Clarks Classic Rod forum" and there are some real cane nuts there.
Scott
Tim,
What about water temperture.....was the water cold? Could that have been a factor?
Scott
I have no problem paying $1.50 or $2.00 a fly if they are tied well. Chris hit it right about most cheap flies falling apart after a short time...so, where's the economy in that?
Scott
It depends on where I'm fishing and so it's hard to come up with just ONE go to fly but some of the flies I fish most often are as follows:
ADAMS
ELK HAIR CADDIS
BWO
Dave's HOPPER
LIGHT...
If some one made a Wheatley style fly box that was 2" deep by 4 1/2" wide and 7 1/2" long, rippled foam on one side and compartments on the other, I could get by with only ONE fly box. I fish dry's...
Ludeboy,
The first thing you have to do is to stop calling your rod a pole :D
There may be a local chapter of TROUT UNLIMITED that holds meetings in your area. I'm sure you could find a...
