I just did two grips using TBIII. No glue lines. Just clamp tight and wipe off the excess glue that squeezes out with a damp rag then sand to shape.

I have a similar problem and found that the fly holder Kelly mantioned plus a pointed tweezers and a pair of 2.50+ reading glasses made tying the fly on the tippet much easier.
The most important item I carry is a 2.50+ pair of reading glasses so I can see the flies and the end of the tippet.
I use barbless hooks and lip the fish with my thumb and forefinger, slide the hook out (with a forceps when necessary) then slide the fish back into the water. I seldom use a net but I also seldom...
I recently made a 8'6" 3wt 4pc on a Batson RX7 blank and love it. Excellent casting characteristics, light weight.
My 6 yr old granddaughter asked me to make a fly rod for her. I am considering a 61/2' 2wt with a 6' grip loaded with a 3WF line for easier loading. I would appreciate any opinions before I start.
I use a perfection loop in all of my lines for a loop to loop connection with my furled thread leaders and on the tippet for a loop to loop connection there. The knot is strong but I also add a drop...
AMEN! Remember when Republicans were moderate, CEO's worried about the best interests of their stockholders, doctors made house calls, and jobs were (more or less) secure?
I found this Youtube video very helpful.

I was 12 and the rod was a Phillipson which I still have. It is as floppy as a noodle and heavy. I went with my father, his friend Monte and Monte's nephew. We floated down the Current River in...
After having finished my second graphite rod a few weeks ago, I started sniffing around cane rods and noticed that the female ferrules go on the bottom whereas on graphite they go on top. Is there...
I tried but received a msg that I had to fill in bio details. I don't wish to do that so I guess no zip code.

You should also consider the Orvis 7 pc, 9', 5 wt Frequent Flyer travel rod. Price is $198. I bought one a few years ago to take on motorcycle trips and love it. The 905-7 is a fast tip flex rod....
I really like the Aqua Nova 99 lines from globel dorbeR (also an FAOL sponsor). I have a WF5F from them and a WF5F from Cortland and have used both for about a year now. The only difference I notice...
Well - it's done. My first fly rod, an 8'6" 3wt 4pc built on a Rainshadow RX7 graphite blank. The final coats of epoxy cured last night and this morning I took it out to the back yard to see how well...
I finished the first 2 sections of my first rod and they came out very nicely but when I got to the third section the epoxy finish had begun to thicken to a molassas type consistancy. Stupidly, I...
I dress my thread furled leaders with fly floatant at the same time I dress the fly. When the fly needs to have floatant added I also add floatant to the leader. Usually, the fly needs to be dressed...
I am nearing the end of building my first rod and am concerned about securing the reel seat. The seat is an all aluminum one with no inserts. The seat has an I.D. of .55" and the blank has an O.D. of...
This worked great. Thx for the tip.
I have to be the newest member of the rod building community since I am about 2/3 through my first one. Here is what I have found out so far.
1. It is much easier than I expected after reading a lot...
I am in the process of making my first rod (8'6" 3 wt 4 pc on a Rainshadow blank). The guide wraps look great but nowhere in the many articles I have read on rod building did anyone warn of the...
I make most of mine with Uni 6/0 thread and use a hand held power drill for twisting. I sight down the twisting thread and watch the amount of bow in the line. If it begins to look like a jump rope I...
