Has nothing to do with the economy, he just couldn't be there this year. He'll be back next year.
If you have an Old Navy nearby, they have fleece pants for $20 or so. I picked up some last year and they're almost too warm for anything but the dead of winter.
Excuse the lousy picture, I shouldn't be allowed near a camera. Here's my latest, a 7 1/2' 4wt based on a PHY Perfectionist.5788
Is the foot on the reel too long? If so, you could glue a few washers under the cap to extend it a hair. If the foot is too small and the ring just slides down without locking, shim the reel foot by...
Red mucilin works great to float the tip of plastic fly lines. Especially if you also grease at least a foot or so of the leader as well.
I must admit though, I clean my lines rather often so...
White vinegar will remove the corrosion so you can remove the reel. Just be sure to wash it all down with clean water after-wards so the vinegar doesn't start to eat the brass.
You can get any gauge or color of wire from electronics parts suppliers like Digikey or Mouser. Look under magnet or transformer wire.
I use the paraffin/naptha mixture but I dissolved the wax in coleman fuel since I had it around and the main component is naptha anyways. l use this at the bench and muscilin while on the water....
Hare's ear nymph. Looks and acts enough like a pellet to fool stockers, but can also look like a nymph to wild fish(and other flyfishers).
Bob Popovics did a bunch of research on that a few years back when he was working on his Jiggy fly. The theory is that the material causes drag in the water and whatever side of the hook the majority...
I agree, seems like the same folks that rave about the imported bamboo are the first ones to jump on a Walmart bashing thread. The point that's missed is that these imported blanks and rods will...
If you tie flies then you don't need anything new to wrap rods.
Here's my method:
Put the wrapping thread in a bobbin
Clamp the bobbin's neck in the tying vice
Wrap the thread on while...
No problem, I simply misunderstood what you said in the post I quoted. I have nothing against folks building on others' blanks(especially when the work is as nice as this one), I just wanted to point...
You can definitely make quality blanks for short cash. You're not too far from me so if you're interested I have a set of wooden forms you can have(you just have to come get them). The only tools you...
Most fluke rigs for fishing with live killies use that style of hook(although quite a bit bigger, they call it a "Kahle" hook). I think the bend in the shank might act like a keel to keep them...
When the rod is all finished the two sections should be the same length.
If the ferrules are not mounted, measure the thickness of the butt cap, the slide length and water dam of the female...
If it was impregnated properly under pressure, the corners will be fine. If it was just soaked in a "impregnating" solution for a while, it might be a problem. That being said, I agree with mr. blur...
Two pages of posts and nobody mentions the googly eyes?
Did you try to cut off the seat?
Just give the rod a good shake before taking it down and it'll re-align the fibers so it won't take a set. I'm not saying to whip it around like you're trying to beat a snake, but firmly shake it in...

Tail: medium dun
Body: cream with slight pinkish hue(urine stained vixen fox belly is the traditional dubbing)
Wings: wood duck flank
Hackle: medium dun
I recently ordered some lines from them and there was a slight error and Ron straightened it out right away. Top notch service from this place. I will definitely use them again.
Along the same lines: don't EVER bring bananas on a boat. Around here that'll get you tossed overboard.
I made my own by measuring the hook gap and making a line 2x(I like my hackles a little longer) that from the edge on a business card. I also measure for the tail and wings the same way. Costs...
