I think that the Serendipity does a good job imitating an emerging caddis. It may also do a good job as a midge emerger.

Here is another interesting way to build your own leaders. I use these for saltwater and warmwater fishing. I dont see any reason why one could not use these for trout fishing as well.

My response was meant more as a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that the "Trude" fly seems to have a non specific history.
