check your deer hair the straighter the hair the better it spins. I use a double edge razor blade to shape my deer hair bend it between your thumb and first finger

You left out one thing that being only allowed to use a 9 ft long willow stick for a rod and cotton string tied 3 in frome top of willow

I would get a very fine aquarium net and find out what kind of bugs are in the stream and copy some thay eat something other than fish food

I dont know if what I say will help but it might. The next time you are on the trout stream and you see some one beating the water trying to learn to cast and be a fly fisherman. Dont shake your head...

Just ask some one for a little help it only takes a minute to tye a fly on. We are all fly fisherman. I have done it and made a few new fly fishing buddies....
