To those who did reply I thank you for your participation in this thread. I can see why the majority of conversation relate to Florida fly fishing here.

Just curious as to how many salt anglers are here and their primary saltwater angling areas of preference. I see a bunch of posts from Fl, some from the west coast, and a few from the east coast.
...
Being retired from a manufacturing management background and knowing the weather issues we have been experiencing in the east I find it very reasonable to believe they shutdown for weather. One has...
Lew Old reels have varying values ....... depends on how much the buyer wants what you have. I have seen Wedding Cakes go from $400 up the past 3-4 years.
Obviously you were happy with the sale...
I go from a 5wt Winston XTR thru a 19wt Cape Fear Rod and lengths from 8' thru 16' for the salt. All of them have their times and place but I have favored my 2 handed rods since the early 1990's for...
I would have to say a Quigley conversion Van. This company converts chevy and ford full size vans into 4wd vehicles. The room of a Van out on the beach is hard to beat as a beach fly fishing vehicle...
I agree with Dudley ....... This time of year the vineyard is hard to beat for shorebound saltwater fly fishing!
Nice Q ..............
Till a wind blows ..... ;)
Nice job Dr Fish ............ we usually use a chum fly for sharks. Very interesting fly you used.
Right now I would be going after the shark food instead ...... the albies! :)
On the east coast a conservative estimate would be 7 out of 10 salt fly guys use Orvis shooting baskets the other 3 use homemade rubbermaid baskets with cones, wire nuts, or weedwacker lines in them....
Been using two handers in the salt since the early 90's ........ just not spey rods. :)
The requirements are vastly different from a two hander used in the salt and a spey rod used in a river....
Hi JC, the light grey user names in the chat display area is very difficult for old eye's to see who is saying what. The last time I was in the room the names were black and easy to see.
Tyrone, You can bet Steve hasn't had to pay for a rod in quite awhile either! Big difference if you bought it or if it was given to you.
And the point the caster is trying to make is????????
The ferrules would loosen if it was cast like that for any length of time. I've unfortunately loosened bamboo ferrules but I am typically...
Dianne, Lets hope an alligator doesn't have you or Ken for lunch tomorrow ...... a kayak ain't no Jones Brothers or Parker. ;)
I'll keep the stripers busy on the flats while your gone!
Asked where you were on the chatroom recently .....glad to see your back
Heck with Florida SW Ladyfish, the Stripers are at your front doorstep heading up the Susky!
I have friends that have seen big girls busting herring near the RR bridge last week. How could you...
I have to agree with Ray and the others ...My 5wt Sylk line was terrible and I used it to tie up tomato plants ....when I have to go plastic on my grass rods its Cortland Peach or Hook and Hackle...
What JC said .... Cortland Sylk is similar to regular fly lines. Silk are woven silk fiber's.
As far as advantages to silk lines: they cast very nicely with grass rods but only float for maybe 4...
Banjo, Sorry to hear about your illness and I have enjoyed your site for years .... hope to see your posts.
I have gone to the ridiculous with a 1 weight before......I cast a 2/0 Hollowfleye with the wind to stripers feeding at the base of a bulkhead......landed several stripers up to 18lbs that day. These...
Get a 10wt and be done with the decision making process. The vast majority of our SW fish are neither leader or line shy. A 10 will throw a much larger variety of flies in all but the very worst...
What is the saying? "You can't hardly throw a dead cat anymore without hitting a bamboo rod builder" http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/wink.gif
There are a bunch of builders out there with even...
