My 15 year old daughter. When she fly fished she was truly gifted at it. The casts, mends, patience... everything she did was something to be proud of, then we added the word 'teen' to her age! That blew it right then and there!
Folks say she'll come back to it, I really, really hope so.

My son is only two years old, but I can't wait untill he is a little bigger so that he can start going fishing and canoeing with me. He wants to go 'feeshen' (as he says it) now but it is a little cold outside for him. By the way, what age would ya'll recomend trying to start him out. I don't want to push this on him but I think if he starts young he'll be hooked for life.

phishfool,
I believe just getting the young ones in the outdoors will be be a good start in their fly fishing life.
Take him out in the canoe, chase turtles and frogs.
Go camping, hike along a mountain stream, roll a few rocks, look at the bugs.
I caught my first fish on a fly that I tied myself when I was 8. But I really couldn't cast well untill I was 12.
It was the love of the outdoors that hooked me.

My Son, AJ. He was 6 when he caught his first fish on a flyrod. I hope to take him more this spring and summer.
