As a rule, whatever it costs you to ship them, the return shipping will be the same. Just tell the postmaster you need it for a round-trip. They should put the return stamps in the package.
I have yet to find something that USPS cannot crush (I've lost 6 sets of files in the last 3 years). Maybe a military surplus ammo can could survive, but I wouldn't even put money on that.
Thanx for the reply. Flies should be in the mail on Tuesday cause Monday's a holiday. Got 8 tied so 5-6 more and they be in the mail. That will cover the swap + some for the swapmiester.
shad
Remember postage rates increase in a week.

Flies will be in the mail by noon tomorrow.
Sounds about right, Gig. They closed the sub post office, just down the street, making it inconvenient for me. That was supposed to save money. Now 11 months later they need more!

Two more sets of flies are in! Pictures to come soon! How is everybody else doing on their flies?
They are looking good!
Karli-Rae
OK!!! I have had it with the supreme foam hopper. There are just some things I can't do, walk and chew gum, apparently. I am changing my pattern to Hanie's Monofiliment Grub.
My tying desk looks like a genetic-engineering nightmare. Grotesque little deformed grasshoppers every place. Even bluegill would be afraid to bite these things.
Hook: Size 14 dry
Thread: black
Antenna: duck biot natural brown
Abdomen: glow in the dark bracelet
Body: Brown craft foam
Head: Red craft foam
Shell/Wing case: access buck tail

I had to change mine as well. Sportsman's Warehouse (the only place within 50 miles that carries fly materials) did not have any 6X hooks in stock, and 2x makes the worm look too short. I have tied some very real-looking grub worms, that I know from experience, absolutely catch fish. I will Fed-Ex them first thing Monday.
I apologize for the delay, but I just didn't want to give up on this pattern. I am still going to continue to develop it, perhaps for a future swap.
Here is the real critter:

No problem! USPS priority will probably actually get here faster than FedEx. For some reason FedEx takes FOREVER to get things here.
First swap of 2013 and I'm allready in trouble. My brother in law is dying of cancer and his wife (my wife's sister) is having emotional problems which present themselves as heartproblems. My wife is a trained nurse and she can cope with the troubles our health system throws at us, so we spent lots of time trying to solve what we can. That's why I will be very late (again, I know). Maybe it's better to but out for now, I don't know how the immediate future will be. Karli-Rae, what shall I do? I've done nothing yet. In my opinion it's better to but out for now.
Sjo
First, in my opinion it is sjo's call if he wants us to wait a bit. If you think you won't be able to complete January sit out and pick back up when you can. These things (swaps) should be interesting and fun, not tedious and traumatic.
(Sjo, as a friend and a [cancer] survivor, my thoughts and best wishes to your family.)
Second, flies are ready to mail. I sent Karlie-Rae a set of Dr James Henshall's favorite files (from around 1881) just to make Joel jealous. I had thought about a 19th Century bass fly theme in May but, it may just be too much fun for Gig.
Flies mailed Monday morning.
Sjo, our prayers are with you. Of course, it is up to AlbaSurf, since this is her swap, but I have absolutely no problems waiting on you, or even if you want to set this one out, to continue in the other months. I respect whatever decision you and Karli come up with.
Billhouk-Ooooh! Henshall had some awesome patterns. I was going to tie the oldest known fly for Feb., but I didn't think anyone would want to use a real dead fly and a baseball bat this early in the year......:o
Flies in the mail Monday. As for the one w/ family issues, not a problem for me to wait. If he wants to bow out for now and join later that's good too. Sjo my prayers are w/ you and your family!!
Shad
I agree with road, gig and alba, family is more important. sjo can sit out and wait or rejoin at a later date.
My flies are on the way, care of USPS Priority Mail.
Flies on the way. Should be there Thursday or Friday.
I'll sit it out then and try to rejoin February! Thanks for your comforting words!
Sjo
Hope all turns out well for you and your family Sjo. Prayers are still with you and yours.
Many more flies have arrived! Pictures coming soon! Just waiting on one more set and will get them packaged up and sent out!
Sjo- No worries, my prayers are with you and your family.
Karli-Rae
Did my flies arrive?
Geoff
Trying to post pics but having issues with the uploader...
Just waiting on branhaps flies to be able to send them!
Karli-Rae
Is everyone ok with only getting one of your own flies left instead of two? Even though Sjo sat out this month I'd still like to send him a set of flies if that is ok with everyone?
Anyone head from branhap or know his phone number? I want to send out the flies today but have yet to hear from him.
Karli-Rae
I'm ok with Sjo getting a set of flies.
Bob9
Most definitely send Sjo a set.
Send sjo a set. i don't need any of mine back. Have several of mine sitting on my table. The screw-ups that didn't make the cut!! lmao!!!
BTW i have a dozen tied for the next swap. Need my box back so i can use it to send them lol.
Absolutely, send Sjo a set. I'm pretty sure his address is on his profile. Let me know if you need assistance with the customs forms and "stuff".
Yes send sjo a set
Absolutely send some to sjo. We never leave anyone behind......
I put all the flies in the mail today.
Joel - I sent branhap's flies to you, thinking he could send both sets your way and you could distribute his ties to everyone with the next round. They are well-labeled. :-)
FYI everyone - since the postage rates increased recently the MINIMUM cost for sending a fly package is at least $2.07. That's if it is under 13 oz AND 1/2 inch width or something like that. So, keep that in mind if you are attaching stamps.
And a confession - I changed my pattern at the last minute as well. I got stumped so bad on various parts of the patterns I pick. So in the end, I tied a mosquito. ;-)
Karli-Rae
I have to tell you, I wouldn't have thought of doing this if it weren't for Mr. McGarthwaite (Parnelli). Two years ago I participated in his Beginners' Only Fly Swap. Towards the end of the year school work got so busy that I was unable to tie the last two sets of flies. I was so surprised when I received flies for those months, though I hadn't tied any. So, it was from Mr. Steven McGarthwaite that I learned that type of generosity and so now make it my goal to remain open to opportunities to pay that forward in whatever way they may present themselves.
Karli-Rae
You Guys and dolls are really okay! It's heartwarming being part off such a fine bunch of looney binners! I butted out for this swap but I will ty my pattrn and distribute that via another swapmeister.

Sjo
God, am I glad Gig did not choose Valantineflies! ;)
Flies went out today, sorry guys. Will explain the reason in more detail on February swap.
