Gigmaster,
What do you have planned for the February swap?
Bob9
BUMP for info.
OK. I remember now. For February I am planning a Medieval and Renaissance swap. All flies have to be a pattern (or modern adaption, by necessity...) of Thomas Barker (Oliver Cromwell's Cook..1651 AD), Claudius Aelinanus (Circa 200 AD), Izaak Walton (1653 AD), or Charles Cotton (1676 AD). Modern materials and hooks substitutions are acceptable as long as the pattern retains the original....flyness (???). You can find a lot of the patterns here at http://seventeenthcenturyflies.blogspot.com/.
Fantastic - now I have to go kill me a beare and then find a two-year old red bullock and convince it to give me some of it's wooll;
Great idea.
I better get started now - maybe I can just trim some wooll off of a hibernating beare once I find it.:)
Modern substitution for materials is OK, because I am sure some of the materials are no longer available (or maybe even illegal....). If you have to use black bucktail instead of Black Bear hair, it's OK.
I sincerely hope no one actually tries to use real polar bear or seal fur in their patterns. We just want to capture the flavor....not necessarily the substance.
I cant wait for December to get here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know what I'm going to do and it will be sooooooo cool!!!!!!! Prizes even!!!!!!!!!!!!!
