I've toyed with the idea of a wood reel seat on a spinning rod. Mudhole carries them and they look good in the catalogue. On theirs, the threads are cut into the wood, which bothers me a little bit. Seems like the feel of the wood in the hand would be nice.

I've done several wood reel seats for spinning rods. Something you should keep in mind is that the wood is heavier than the graphite. I still got several seats sitting around that I made for demos.
Mudhole makes those seats but I fear the threads will tear out and then you got a seat that needs repairs. I would rather take the skeleton of a graphite and then put the wood in as a spacer.
To me, I'd rather do cork for a spacer. Light, stable and and you get a good feel from it. I got a bunch of them lying around, all to fit the #16 seat.

I like the idea of adding a wood spacer. Overall though I agree with you in that I do like the feel of cork.
