My question is, why stop with a hatchet??
A good Hudson?s Bay axe doesn?t weigh much more. The only difference is the length of the handle, and you sure can do one heck of a lot more with a good axe.

Axe, is to hard to control, when makeing items like paddles (have had to make one) when make eating utensals, and hammering and such. Hatch is easier to handle, when do things other than choping wood.
