I go to a fairly large church but one of the few in a county of 800,000 that has food and clothes closets. I go to a Bible study class of guys from 30 - 60's we laugh and joke a lot; but are the go to group when something needs done. Our food closet is having a hard time keeping up this year so the class fish fry we planned is becoming a "Fund Raising Fish Fry Super Bowl Party." Somewhere between the idea that I like to fish and I like to eat fish they came up with the idea I knew how to stage a fish fry. We will have a ball, Mississippi farm raised catfish, hushpuppies, coleslaw and fries, probably a little Vidalia onion on the side, Saints and the Colts in the Super Bowl or maybe Favre will lead the Vikings to their first Super Bowl victory.
Lots of fun, Praise the Lord.
P.S. Recipes for good hushpuppies gladly accepted.

Two words......
BOB HOPE!
God Bless & Rest his soul for what he left us all...especially us ol' Vets.
To me, he will always be synonymous with the spirit of Christmas.

There is an organization in DC that does what they call a Covert Santa operation. The DC team visits the military hospitals and "adopts" sick and injured service personnel for Christmas. They pick the person's brain for potential gifts and then send the list to the elves. The elves then take the responsibility of purchasing, wrapping, and sending the gifts along to Santa. He gets some help from the team in DC to deliver the gifts but the elves remain anonymous. Since neither the elves nor the service person ever knows the other it helps to retain the pride of the service person. I participated as an elf last year and couldn?t wait to do it again. It is a great way to give back to those that are still watching over our freedom each day.
This from the local scene ......

Kudos to the Washington Companies and Foundation. And to all others who support those in need.

Had one yesterday.
A lady came into my office to inquire about eye glasses. She couldn't afford them and asked about agencies that could help her. We gave her some info and got her name and address.
When she left, a police officer that was in our waiting room offered to buy her glasses for her and wished to remain anonymous.
Tis the season.
Does it need to be just at Christmas?? My wife and I have paid the tuitionfor several families to the Holy spirit Catholic School where she worked. Could never help more than one or two at a time but it was something we felt needed to be done. I think some other families found out about it because a fund has been started for underpriviliged kids who really need the extra Structuring, dicipline? of a parocial school.
Had this happen 4 days ago, went to the grocery store, we both forgot to bring any money, cash, card, or check. Asked if we could just leave $4.67 worth of stuff at the counter until we could get back with means to pay. The cashier next to our line said NO!! She would pay for it and we could pay her back when we saw her next time we were in!! Rosey is a friend and does this for MANY people, not just friends.. She has never had anyone not pay her back that she can remember.
She got a plate of goodies as well as the money the next day.
The local schools, private and public, have made it a tradition to always help with the needy around our area.
I thank the Lord that I can share my wealth with those less fortunate.
That is AWESOME!
I wish I had the $$ to do such.
