All my thread leaders are made from Uni tying thread. Of all the threads I've tried it is the easiest one when constructing the Shorb loop. It also makes a very nice casting leader.
As a fun thing I have made some Glow in the Dark thread leaders but just don't get the nice Shorb loops.
Coats & Carl clear .005 Nylon sewing thread is also a nice material to work with and gives you a leader with lots of streatch.
Because of the cost I have not experimented with many flourocarbons. I've tried Cabela's 4# "No Vis" flouro and Berkly 4# Vanish. Both make a comparable leader but the Cabela's is harder to control during the twisting process.

Question for you Fluorocarbon Vanish users...
It's supposed to disappear better than others under water out of the UV light...I've noted that as expected ...when in the sunlight... it takes on a golden look....what bothers me is that under water when the water is clear...you can see that golden look even down a few feet...
That can't be good can it??????????????
Duckster;
I think that the facets of a furled leader may kill the disappearing property of flourocarbon. There are is lot of surface to reflect light.
Are you using the Transition "Gold" line?
I'm sorry... I should have said the Berkly Transition...that gold color stays for those few feet...the sun must be stil getting at it....I'm thinking that for shallow fishing especially in clear water the plain Vanish would be better...I know Warren says he uses the Transition.
So for dry flys which turns over better a thread leader or mono?
I assume the mono would be stiffer so would that mean It would turn over a longer tippet than thread? And a Thread leader would turn over a tighter loop?
If I use #2lb test mono for a 10 8 6 what would be the ending Lb test at the 6 end? I spoze it probably doesn't matter.
If Ruth is away does that make her family Ruthless?
For a dry fly thread furled leader when I apply the red jar type muclin do I do it to the finished leader or the thread before I furl it? Or does it matter.
Ohio Tuber recently bought a Pontoon boat, So does that make him Ohio Pontoober?

Soy sauce makes a good sheen with a luster that none other stain will give.
We used in on our radio controlled model sailboats. I named my boat "China lilly" because that is the brand of soy sauce I used to color the hull. The dark soy makes the light colored threads show up well on my furling pegboard. however I suppose one would need a white board to show up black thread better?
These questions and many many more haunt my soul.
Help me......
