Gettysburg Fishing
Fellow Flyfisher people,
My wife and I are going to spend a week visiting Gettysburg and area. Although we have a full week planned I "may" just find a few moments to put together the fly rod and take a few casts. In the event I do find some time can anyone point me a the right direction? I'm not at all familar with the area.
Thanks for the help,
OTTO

You may find some help at [url=http://www.fish.state.pa.us:06634]http://www.fish.state.pa.us[/url:06634]
You aren't too far from Yellow Breeches and Conewago Creeks. From the above link click on "county guide" , then Adams county. That will bring up a map of Adams county. Other than that I don't know much about that area.

OTTO:
The closest trout stream to Gettysburg is Marsh Creek which is a stocked stream, all tackle permitted about 3.5 miles out of dead center Gettysburg on Route 30 West.
After that, Conewago Creek which has a Catch & Release Fly Fishing Only stretch, is only 5.5 miles north from dead center on Route 34 North.
If you're after wild trout on small water, the headwaters of the East Branch of Antietam Creek is about 13.5 miles out of town.
Have fun!

Thanks everyone for the replys. I did forget to say when I would be there, it will be the first week of May. Are the streams in their banks by then. Here in the UP the first week is still too eary to fish even though season is open. The first of June is more like it!

OTTO:
First week of May should be excellent!
Bring some Sulphurs size 16 and of course BWO's sizes 18-20 and caddis 18-20. If the Sulphurs are coming off it is a late day affair with the best action coming between 8:00-8:30 pm that time of year. That week may be a bit early though.
Enjoy our great state!
