Getting better
Hi all,
Just wanted to post and say thanks to all of you who have stuck with me through my medical problems. I just had a visit with the doc the other day. As expected due to the dying of my thyroid the glucose numbers are elevated right now.
My latest test results show my TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) level is 39 with the normal range being .5-5.0! TSH is released by the pituitary gland to stimulate the thyroid into hormone production. The higher the TSH level, the lower the actual thyroid hormone level. In short my thyroid is now dead so we begin the adjustment of hormone levels via my daily synthroid pill. I have gained weight but doc isn't worried about that as it is part of what I am going through. She also knows how active I normally am and said my activity level should pickup again when we get things balanced better.
The worst thing now in my back. 5 bad disc's, two of them completely dessicated and ruptured into the spinal cord canal (stenosis) as well as into the nerve roots for my legs. I had hopes to work another 20 years serving our troops but I will probably be facing 80% disability retirement soon. It is going to break my heart not being able to server the members of our military.
Thanks to all who have stood with me thorugh this. I hope to get on the water over my 5 day holiday weekend this month.
God Bless all,
Eric.

Eric, from this post and your past posts I know that your service to our country has been and will be very important to you, remember that service is in the mind not the pay check. Thank you for your current and continued service to our military past, present and future.

It is good to hear you are getting better Eric, if your back is stuffed there is nothing you can do, except do as the docs tell you and go fishing more often! The man upstairs must think you have done enough and it is time to take it easy.
All the very best.
Mike.

Hi Eric,
Glad to hear that the thyroid condition is starting to get under control. Hope that things get balanced quickly for you. Not much one can do about a bad back, but do as the doctor said. You're services to your fellow country men have been appreciated as I'm sure you know.

From one Vet to another, thanks for your service to our troops. I too have disc problems including blocked spinal canal and damaged nerve roots. I haven't stood on my tip toes since 1982. That being said, your service to our Vets has not gone un-appreciated. Now perhaps it's time for us to be of service to you.
God Bless you my friend,

Eric,
Take a look at this link http://www.zimmer.com/z/ctl/op/globa.../IN/navid/1928
I was told the same thing about my back. This procedure has worked very well for me. I did give up millwright work and went to inspection work but I still get around well and the pain is manageable with out prescription drugs.

I know what you are going through, when it finally hit me and hit me hard, that my career was at an end, I went completely blank, and it is still is a shock. That wears off, and if I know You, you will find someway to keep serving those that serve.
It is what it is, now is the time to take care of you and Amy.
Take care, chest out and chin up troop, don't look at the ground, I picked up all the quarters..
