Cabela's Rumor
I've just heard that Cabela's is thinking of buying the Reed City, MI airport for a new store!!
Makes sense, between Traverse city and Grand Rapids, about an hour from Saginaw, Bay city and Midland. Then there's Clare, Big Rapids, Cadillac, Ludington, etc.
Anyone heard anything?

I wouldn't be surprised but as far as I know the only new Cabela's are planned for Reno NV, Glendale AZ, East Hartford CT and Lehi UT which opens next week.

We need a Cabelas in Ohio!!
Why should "Meechigan" get another? All the state's self respecting sportspeople are moving to Ohio, where they will finally have something to cheer for!!

Hey fishy guts, I asked them at Cabelas if they were going to put any stores in Oregon or Washington and they said they had no plans for future stores in either state but they would forward my question to their research and development department. Maybe if enough of us West Coast people start asking them about a store out here they will give us one.

At the Hamburg, PA Cabelas last weekend, the fly shop guys passed on the rumor that a store was being planned for the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
That's where Giant's stadium is -- near the Lincoln Tunnel on the Jersey side. Still a lot of space there but it's an environmentally sensitive area -- a marsh.

My brother heard a rumor that Cabelas was also coming to West Michigan in the Holland area. I contacted them last winter to find out that they are not moving another store in the Michigan area. Sorry.

The thing is -- the Cabelas' stores are really stocked great. I frequently have to order over the internet to get the stuff I want. There are certain lines Cabelas' doesn't carry because they compete with Cabelas brand products. But I generally liked what I saw in Hamburg.

Two points: If you want to find out what Cabela's is doing as far as new stores, go to the website and find "investor relations". They list all the plans for sites that are firm.
Second, for Washingtonians: be careful what you wish for. Once Cabela's puts a store in the state, we start paying sales tax on all our catalog orders...

They were also planning a store north of Milwaukee - but the local building commission turned them down.....
