I want to rig up an anchor for my ODC Classic. Any ideas? I'm thinking about using a retractable pet leash for the anchor line.

I use parachute cord and a downrigger ball, works in all but the strongest winds and when it blows that hard I do not want to be out there anyway.
All the best.

I've used the weights off of barbells....can be found inexpensively @ thrift stores.
I don't think a retractable leash would be strong enough.
I recommend "Rope Ratchets "

I use two mushroom anchors I bought up in British Columbia (they had my name on them, couldn?t resist). Tied to those are 30 foot lengths of parachute cord. I have tied loops in the cord at 10 foot intervals. I use two carabineers, one on either side of my pontoon boat and also on my WaterMaster raft. I place the anchors in the water at 45 degrees off the stern and hook the appropriate loops into the carabineers. These two anchors will withstand a very strong wind and wave action. When it really blows and I am out on the water I will set my anchors and toss out a chironomid or some other type of nymph and just work that fly until the wind stops.

I use a couple of these
You can get them almost anywhere for about $1 a pound

I used to use one of these. Worked great and I could tell how deep the water was. Also had easy anchor retrieval.

I just use a carabiner and 5/16" chains. 24" in length, fold them in half and put them on the carabiner. You can add or subtract for water conditions.
Not a good picture, but you get the idea.

I don't think it'll be strong enough to pull up the anchor either, I was planning on pulling it up by hand, but letting the retractable leash pull in and store the anchor rope. I'm not exaclty the most graceful of guys and the less stuff I have hanging loose the better off I'll be. :)

I use a barbell wrapped in duct tape, attached to 20# nylon line. This is used for river fishing.

I use foam-covered hand dumbbells that I bought at Wal-Mart. The 5-pounders work great.
