Redington rod question
Hi folks
Looking at a backup 5wt and wondering if any of the current Redington offerings compare favorably to the CPS? I have a 4wt CPS and quite like the action. However I have not cast any of the current Redington models. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had an RS4 and really liked it. Very quick action, not a limp noodle :) . Lost it out of my kayak (urge to kill. but it would have been me, so I recanted). I have since replaced it with a TFO. The TFO is nice and all but it is not as quick as the RS4. It feels like a limp noodle in comparison. I needed a rod(and reel) to replace the RS4 and Bass Pro had a combo that was a good price. But I am now used to the action on the TFO and it is fine.....for now.
I have not used a CPS, so I have no point of comparison for you. Sorry.

The follow on for the CPS is the CPX, and while I liked the slightly softer action of the CPS, the CPX works just fine.

cant compare it to the CPS. I have two Reddingtons-the redfly2 6 wt and the crosswater that came with the starter kit. I really love the action of the redfly2; nice furniture and a fast action.

MRFC has the RS4's on closeout.

I guess the first question I have is, 'If this is a back-up, what is the "go to" 5wt, and how much do you want to spend on this back-up?'
I have two CPS, a 7wt and a 9 wt, and both are lovely. If you want to spend less, I would get an Albright A-5NS. I have a 6 wt that is excellent, though not as fast as the CPS. However it is a great 'fishing' rod as opposed to a pure casting (distance) rod, and is excellent for roll casts. A friend has the 4wt, which he likes quite well.
I also have two Green-Stix rods made in Michigan by Steve Green. They are about $300 each. I really like the stiff butt design and they cast very well. A friend has the 7.5ft 3 wt and loves it.
Here is probably your best review of current 5wt rods, Yellowstone Angler.

kbe flies seems to has some cps left. it is my favorite rod series. i have 2 4wts 1 6wt 1 8 wt all 9 ' long in this series. i sold my other rods except for a sage rpl 4wt that has a similiar action but is a 2 piece so i use it mostly around home.

Albright A-5. Last year they were $99 on closeout. This year they are $188(?). I bought one last year and it broke....twice.....near a section junction(once at a butt section of all places). The rod felt good but it certainly does not hold up well at all.
