Beat the rain... got a few fish too!
This post is mostly for me to try my posting skills. I want to see how to post pictures in a thread too!
I work at a pharmacy in Omaha and I stumbled upon a diamond in the rough one day after work. Just as I was leaving I was going home a different way and noticed a little pond/lake behind a grocery store. I grabbed my "truck rod and reel" (The old Wally world special that I always have with me) and tried to catch some fish. It was a great time even in the rain. The pictures are pre-precipitation. Truly a great hour on the water!
The biggest bluegill I have caught so far (this was a few days ago).

Some fun bass too!

Cross your fingers that this works! Sorry for the poor cell-phone pictures
Tight lines Friends!

Bravo! You have passed "Picture Posting 101." See, it's not as difficult as you thought.
Seriously, small impoundments like storm water basins in housing developments are sometimes a gold mine for big bluegills and bass, no matter where in the country they are. Somehow Mother Nature gets fish in them and they receive very little pressure from the locals. We have two in our development and I've caught LMB up to 18" in the bigger pond. Just watch to be sure you're not trespassing.
Oh, and I would never dream of eating anything from these ponds, as most of them receive runoff from housing areas that contain all sorts of nasty stuff including pesticides and lawn fertilizer. It doesn't appear to bother the fish to look at them, but I'm not taking any chances.

Looks like it worked fine to me, both the posting and the new pond! Those pics didn't turn out too bad at all. Good job.
Re: Beat the rain... got a few fish too!
I've lived just over the hill from that "new" pond since it was built in 1997, and two weeks ago watched as the fisheries biologist from the commercial firm hired to manage the pond ran his electroshock boat around the shoreline. Very interesting!
Can I ask a personal favor? The day may come when we lose access to that property because so many fishermen leave the place trashed with litter. Please do what several of us have started doing: take along a plastic trash bag each time you go and help us clean up after the morons.
p.s. You might want to try a crawdad imitation along the south shoreline.

SKershaw,
Its always nice to find a little gem like that where you least expect it. Something about the midwest that you don't get in the rockies. There are ponds like that everywhere it seems. Almost all of them hold fish. The pond at an apartment complex I lived at for a little while once was one of those. We saw some kids catching blue gill once, so we decided to give it a shot one night. We ended up catching 3, 36ish inch catfish!!
Nice pics, nice fish. Looks like fun.

Heck yeah, I will start taking other people's crap to the dumpster for them! It's frsutrating that one bad apple will spoil the bushel! I will do my best to keep it in the best shape possible. That would be very educational to see the fisheries guy shock that little gem! Now all I have to do is learn to tie a crawdad pattern. They look intimidating to me.
Thanks a ton OBG! Hopefully I will see you on the water! What do I look for? Surely you wear a hat - I can't look for the glare  On my way to Standing Bear today... It will be a first. Maybe I can hook up with a trout or two before they fill 'er up again tomorrow. I have been troutless since moving here from Utah a few months ago. Hopefully I can get into a couple three kinds of pescados!

Forgot to mention I lived on OK for a while! I was just fixin' to update that! :D
Re: Beat the rain... got a few fish too!
Always 'fixin' to do something. All y'all should just get'r done already! ;) :D
Nice, Scott, now the word's out and I have not even had a chance to hit it yet. :D If it ever stops raining and I can get a break from building this ark I will have to rectify that situation!!
Old Bald Guy; Glad to see you over here since the NGPC board got shut off. :( Did anyone else come over with you? I been a bit 'away' from the fishing for a while, but Scott kinda reinfected me with the bug to spend all my spare time doing it. (Okay, I finished my Masters Degree in there too.)
BTW, nice pictures Scott! I really like the one with the popper way back in the mini bass throat.

Good one guys!
I move away from Omaha and now the board is filling up with hotspotters!
And after yesterday I can't even blaim it on Steve Peterson anymore.
