I have to admit that I got the idea for the rod holder from Jim Flaming
Althought I put a FULL platform on mune (have a cloth seat that will fold flat and I can stand on the boat for sight fishing) the rear deck is still the same as most pontoons. I mounted the Sonar on an angled piece of aluminum and it sticks between floor and frame.

Rod holders are the flush mount Scottys.

Made the battery box with quick connector for Motor and Sonar:

And modified a Minn Kota for pennys to come up with one that I can control foward/reverse and all speeds from right next to me.

The Sonar Transmitter is a square aluminum tubing mounted to the frame:

Did the same thing with the Navigator II:

Joni,
What model hummingbird do you use? Would you be able to see a jig on that unit?

I even use it as a joke at times, telling other tooners that the fish are at 15', so I adjust my line and Bamb! there they are.
I will add the info I have found. The transducer need NOT be very deep. Mine is a smidge higher than the bottom of my boats so it doesn't drag on land. I took a tape measure and dropped it down to get an accurate reading, then adjusted the transducer to read the same. If you put it too deep you will be off on your deep nymphing. My old mans was a little lower and he is reading for example 19' where I am reading 21'. Big difference when fish are involved.
I just wanted to pass that on cause I see people with the Transducer 2 feet under them and wonder why the deep nymphing isn't working or why I am using a longer one.
I know I'm just trying to get an idea of the sensitivity of some of these units. How about, "Can you see a beadhead nymph?" In my thinking these are pretty much the same and i have no qualms about casting tiny jigs on my flyrod, Purism be damned! I'm the guy whose Humminbird got drowned so I've been thinking about replacement. It has however come back after spending a few days out in the hot sun. I have a kayak and a pontoon boat so I may be in the market for another sonar anyway.Quote:

I'm going to try and put a "How to" post in here.
This has been a great thread, folks, thanks!--I've learned a lot, and am ready to try the trolling motor again. I picked up a 30 amp-hour AGM bettery today, which looks much more manageable.
As far as what I want to do for lake bottom mapping.....ouch! Lots of money needed. A fish finder that has NMEA 2000 networking capabilities, a laptop or data logger for collecting all the info, and a $600 piece of software to do the grid mapping and contour interpolation. So much for that idea! So I'm going to keep my Fishing Buddy for now, and see if it will run on rechargable D cells so I don't spend $5 a day on batteries when using it.

Hey, good idea Duckster -- the Fishin' Buddy is 4.5 volts, the troller 12 volts. But I think Radio Shack used to sell a 12v to 3-4.5-6-9 volt converter. If they don't anymore, I'm sure someone else does. That's a no-brainer if I can find the adaptor, and it would also work on a nice little 5 amp-hour gel cell to run the Fishin Buddy when I don't have the trolling motor mounted. I'll pursue that one and post an update!

Fly Goddess,
I have an Outcast FC Cougar and a friend has been trying to talk me into doing what you've done with your pontoon. That is, put a complete deck on it. What are some of the advantages, besides sight fishing, and disadvantages, if any, that you have found?
Jack Hise,
I like the idea of the post and swivel addition to your seat, but are you still able to use your feet for manueverability while fishing? It looks like my feet would be nearly out of the water, but that might be because people call me short!
