boots (not fly fishing)
I've always had wide feet. Since I've had gout it has gotten worse. I can't find a hunting boot to fit me. I spent several hours looking yesterday at Cabela's and Dick's as well as other stores in the mall. The only thing wide enough was a pair of keene hiking boots but they only came to the bottom of my ankle which promised wet feet in a grouse covert. Does anyone have any suggestions for brands that run wide? I'm looking for an eight to ten inch waterproof boot. Insulation is optional.

I have a wide foot, 10 EE, and found LL Bean Cresta hiking boots fit great, right out of the box. I don't hunt, but hike in all kinds of conditions and they keep my feet pretty dry; got 6 years out of the first pair, putting a lot of miles on them hiking some pretty rugged country, before they had to be replaced (with another pair). Might be worth a look.

Scott

Thanks Scott. I'm trying to avoid mail order since I have so much trouble getting a good fit. That looks like the kind of boot I'm looking for though.

Their sizes are true to fit. I had to buy mine online and was a bit concerned (although their return policy if mis-sized is great); they had a sizing chart that I checked my foot against, ordered the boot in that size and it fit just fine.

I've had some foot problems and doc recommended that I got shoes with a "wide Toe box". Specific brands that he recommended were: Clark, Keen, Sass, Ecco, Njorn, NAOT, New Balance, ASCIS, Sauconey, RYKA, Brooks and Keon. Most of these are street or athletic shoes rather than boots so not sure how much this list helps. But I've mostly stuck to Keen and I'm sure they have some hiking and work boot styles (and waterproof boots) that might fit your needs. I'd check Keen styles on-line and then see if your local retailer can get the style for you.

Thanks John. It was a low cut Keen hiking shoe that was the only thing I could get into yesterday at Cabela's. I just googled dealers locally and will look for a boot there.
