Darn, I hate doing this, but I have basic and advanced fly casting videos made by Capt. Tom White from the late 70's, early 80's and he demonstrates this cast. It saves a lot of time from stripping in to check your fly and Tim probably saw the same video recently and figured....
Unfortunately, Mr. White passed in 2007 from brain cancer.

I just walk across the water check it and return to my original position...:)
For those who want to actually learn this technique may I suggest using a fly that you have removed the bent portion, hence the point of the hook so you don't implant the hook into your hand. For sure use a debarbed hook if you actually try this when fishing. For me, I think I will stick with stripping in the line.

I practiced this trick this past weekend and it was relatively easy to master. This is one I'll make as part of my routine. So much faster and easier than to strip in to check your fly.
I think I'm gonna just stick with Steve Molcsan's suggestion. Works great for us Catholics!!! ;)
I do think I'll try that trick cast just to show folks it doesn't always work. I'm good at that! :D

Very good but nothing new.
