Wanting to use these for dry flies, has anyone tried them?? I think hareline makes them
I have bought some and tied with them. They are easy to use and I'm sure are more durable than natural materials, although I still coat them with UV resin. The problem I have with them are the colors - they are a little too bright and "artificial" looking, for lack of a better term, for my tastes.

There are various versions about, Hends, Veniards, etc. I had friends rave about all of them at various times. So far I've steered away from them. They all lack one property of stripped peacock that has most appeal to me. The natural taper.
If you use contrasting colours of thread for body and rib, then coat the body you can create similar effects. For this I use UTC thread so it can be flattened and because the colours are brighter. Being able to do this begs the question, why buy another material to do what I can do with materials I already have?

I agree wholeheartedly Allan. Although I usually fall prey to the newness at first and buy a pack. Then after using it say, "Eh....it works nice. But not nice enough to restock my desk when I already do the same thing with something else."Quote:

Just to give an update... Picked up a pack of synthetic quills in the Adams color. I think hareline makes them if I remember correctly. Tied 2 size 12 Adams last night with them. Over all I would say they look great and were easy to use. Didn't add to much bulk or anything. Can't speak to durability but they look nice out of water. I agree with the comments about color joe.
Overall they are a Nice addition to the material choices.if I can post some pics I will
