Well wouldn't it be, make the kool aid of your color, then put fur in til it changes color?
Here's a decent link:

You could also do a web search and get additional info.

How does it work with quills for bodies?

Would it be able to die green or yellow bucktail orange?
You could over dye the yellow to get orange (yellow + red = orange). The green would come out more of a brownish green...
Here is link to a color chart for dying yarn with Kool-aid...

I do small batches in a drinking glass in the microwave, like this...
1. put cup water into a oven proof mug or drinking glass
2. microwave for 2 minute, you want it hot but not boiling
3. add 1/4 tsp white vinegar as a fixitive
4. add 1/8 tsp laundry detergant as a degreaser (optional)
5. add 1-2 packages unsweetened Kool-Aid
6. mix well and add material
7. stir occasionally, about every 10 minutes
8. material is usually done in about 30 minutes to an hour, then rinse in cold water and dry on some newspaper or paper towels.
Intense colors like bright red might take more time, even overnight. If I soak for a long time I will reheat in for 30 seconds in the microwave from time to time. Hard materials like goose biots benifit from the laundry detergent, help disperse the dye and improves penetration.
Oily materials like mallard flank should be sprayed with 409 cleanser before dying to remove grease. No need to rinse, the cleanser helps just like detergent.
Don't over load the dye bath or you will get spotty results. I like to preen feathers prior to dying. I strip off the fluff and leave only the useful stuff. Make a small bundle of feathers by wrapping the stems with a bit of copper wire. The bundle is easier to control than a lot of loose material.
Thank you, great directions. Nice of you to share what you have learned. So much we learn from mistakes and experimentation that should be shared...
4 drops of food coloring 2 tsp.vinegar 1/2 cup water place materials in coffee mug with liquid microwave 2 minutes DONE.
