Muddler Minnow
It was a cold chilling N/E wind and I was finding it a little frustrating yesterday and tried top and bottom flys', even mid range and the gills where very pickey.
I went to the Muddler and low and behold not only the gills turned to it but the young bass also.
Don't sell the Muddler short, The #10 was the trick for an enjoyable late afternoon.

I use a muddler all the time. I fish it on top for the first two tugs on my retrieve then it begins to sink. I can literally catch a fish on every cast with it. One evening I caught 20 crappie in less then 10-15 mins. Yeah they were a bit on the small side but I did catch them!

Right on the money there. Even my "go to" fly for evening trout fishing. Carp love em too.

I use a Thief which is a varaion with a chenille head instead of hair.

I entered a recent swap just to find out how others tied muddlers and the creativity was incredible. It certainly stretched my imagination. I'll put a couple in my spring box to see what will happen with crappies and bluegill. I had a blast with the crappie candy fly the other night. Three pound or so bass and a couple of crappies. All in the 45 minutes of free time I had to fish. JGW
