How can I remove the shine and luster for my new forceps? I think the chrome finish is too shiny. I try to wear dark and/or plain colored clothing when I am on the stream fishing.
Thanks for any input.

Crocus cloth should dull them up nicely. It's a roll abrasive, sometimes comes in sheets. It has a cloth backing and very fine abrasive on the face. It is used for sanding metal prior to polishing or plating. A green Scotchbrite pad might do it, but I don't think so.
0 or 00 Steel wool or fine grit sandpaperl.
The make a holder for forceps that conceal them I believe. Clip them inside your vest.
All the above and also emery cloth that you use for sanding copper pipe before sweating them together..Available at any h-ware store.
Buy a pair that's black, not chromed. Most places that sell them sell black ones.
Buddy
put them in a pocket
I've spray painted stuff like this with good luck --using flat brown or green camou paint.
Go fishing and don't come back until you've used them enough to knock the shine off. Simple:cool:
Found these on a motorcycle message board. Evidently, dulling chrome on motorcycles parts is a common question. Turns out, that if you start typing "how to dull" in a Google search "How to dull chrome is the second most searched in the results.

"The only way to dull chrome is to cut through the chrome. The shiny part is the coating of nickle beneath the layer of chromium. The chromium provides most of the corrosion protection so once you've dulled it up you'd better keep it polished "
Q:Can I just sand it??
A:No, the chrome is much too thin. You will scratch through rather than roughen it. If you remove the chrome with Muriatic Acid (following label instructions, wearing full personnel protective equipment, and doing it where the fumes won't attack other metal), you can leave the underlyting nickel which will tarnish to a warmer somewhat yellowish color.

If you're worried about reflections stream side, I would just buy stainless steel, anodized or painted forceps. You'll likely spend at least as much if not more, then just buying another pair.
We had a somewhat in depth discussion on forceps (hemostats) a while back. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/s...ad.php?t=30981
Might check it out and see if it helps any.
Don't worry, you will lose them soon anyway *S*. Black ones are readily available, but bear in mind if they are not shiny or some bright color, and you drop them somewhere, you will never ever find them again. I have lost many hemos, and found many hemos, throughout the years.
If $ is a problem, contact anyone who works in a hospital. They are supposed to dispose of them after use, but a sterilization and recycling as a fishing tool makes more sense to me.
