good day too
Finally, the shenandoah water levels were good, and it happened to coincide with a day I was off, even better.

But it didnt start out good, I fished for two hours with all my "standards" and caught no smallies, only a sunfish and 2 small largemouth. Then I switched to a Shenks White Streamer, and I started catching smallmouth.

Including this fellow, just under 16"

The fish of the day took me almost to the backing, then got under a rock and broke off. The strikes on the Shenks streamer were vicious and solid, most were hooked deep in the mouth. These are tied on a size 4 nymph hook and are about 3" long, white rabbit body and white marabou tail.

Never caught a smallie on a flyrod and not enough on a spinning rod but that makes me a little envious of you. I have to get a trip lined up to TN.

It is a lot of fun UJ. It is a different world after fishing for natives with the 3 wt and size 14's and 16's, then throwing the size 4 streamers and poppers with a 6/7 wt. They are great fighting fish. I am lucky to live close to some fun fly fishing.

Prior to 1986 is used spend several weeks each year working in Muscle Shoals, AL. One of my clients and I would try to get out each week for a few hours on the Tennessee River, usually Wilson Lake east of the dam. On rare occasions we would go to just below Joe Wheeler chasing smallies. We planned my visits for April and October when the smallmouth fishing was best. Here is a photo of my best fish ever, the largest just under 4 lbs.
