Justice of the Peace Holly Debacker levied the fine in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor, Ont., on Wednesday, and ordered Feng Yang to forfeit more than 1,800 kilograms of Asian carp.
He was also given a three-year probation order that prohibits him from possessing any invasive species. It was his second conviction, according to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
Yang owns a fish importing company in Markham, and pleaded guilty to the charge.
It has been illegal to have live invasive fish in Ontario since 2005. The prohibited species include bighead, grass, black and silver carp because they pose a threat to the province's lake systems.
Debacker's court was told that a joint operation between the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the Canadian Border Services Agency resulted in the seizure of Yang's carp on Nov. 4, 2010, after agents searched his vehicle as it crossed the border at Windsor.

Bucket Biologists hurt us all.
Kelly.

Fifty "G's" isn't enough! I hope there is jail time too!
-
On top of jail time the should also add a good old "Tar and Feathering"!!! Or lead boots.

Good news except it happened in Canada. The US needs to wake up and nail the morons in THIS country who insist on having exotic pets and then releasing them in the wild to ravage our native species. Burmese pythons immediately come to mind along with Snakeheads.
What's the matter, a cat or a dog isn't good enough for you?
-
Tig,
This guy was caught two times - out of how many times he actually did it? That's what scares me. I hope he ONLY did it twice! Like Kelly said, this bucket biology is very harmful, and I don't even want to think about what Silver carp will do to the Great Lakes system if they get in!
Best regards, Dave S.

What is sadder still is that he purchased them from some moron in the US!

hooray for that judge! THis kind of damaging nonsense has to be stopped immediately before these horrid fish are everywhre
