Question (kids rod)
Hi guys, I'm about to buy my kid his first flyrod, now he is fishing with an Orvis TLS 1wt and it fishies comfortably with it, I wanted to buy one of those for him too, but Orvis doesn't carry it anymore, do you have any suggestions? it needs to be a light rod, because he has also tried a winston XT 5 wt and he can't cast comfortably, what are your recomendations, he is 8 but is as tall as a 10 year old.
Thanks

Clarkii I'll take a look at it :D

Cabelas has their 3 Forks 7'6" 3pc. 3wt with a Ross Flycast for $99.99. It really is a nice little rod for the price.

Though I am not an expert on rods, I know your son will grow like a weed for the next 10 years. Tailoring a rod to his size and strength will become an annual event. Over-rodding him, the equivalent of over-lining a rod, may be the way to go since he will grow into the rod quickly anyway. Shortly he will become very sensitive about the difference between kid's stuff and man's stuff. In other words, be sure the rod you get challenges him to step up a notch.

I'll second their 3forks rod, but if he's used to a 1wt. already and the conditions warrent that light of rod, you might also look at the Cabela's Clear Creek in a 7' 1wt or 2wt.

Bluegill, you are right, if he is already comfortable with that rod, why change it hehehe I'm leving him that rod and I'm getting a Sage 0 wt hehe wel thats what I think, I'll have to ask the kid first if he agrees, here is a pic of him
