Hello,
I just started flyfishing 2 years ago when my grandpa gave me a fenwick fly rod. He said it was the best rod he ever had. He gave it to me with the original rod tube and everything. Anyone ever had a fenwick rod. And if so did you like it.

Hello,
I just started flyfishing 2 years ago when my grandpa gave me a fenwick fly rod. He said it was the best rod he ever had. He gave it to me with the original rod tube and everything. Anyone ever had a fenwick rod. And if so did you like it.
Fenwick makes nice flyrods.
I have a early first generation graphite 6wt Fenwick rod, it's a model HMG. In it's day it was one of the first affordable graphite rods and it was very popular.
I like it well enough but would prefer a rod with a little faster action. I use the 6wt mostly for tossing big streamers and the stiffer rod chucks a big conehead bugger a little better.
I fish inland trout with my Fenwick World Class 6wt that I built myself.
I have always had a soft spot for Fenwicks. I used to have a Fenwick yellow jacket ultra light spinning rod that I loved dearly until my brother lost it overboard when sleeping. He was still fishing for bass in the 1000 islands and had big fish grab it. The rest is history as well as my yellow jacket.
My Dad got his first Fen in '72. I have since aquired it from Dad ( he doesnt fly fish any more). I have a a ball with it . As stated in an earlier post the same applies for me too. I have a genuine liking for a bit faster action ( reads "Cant really make the Fenwick work to its optimum level") but then there is my Wife. She isnt about a faster action in a fly rod. Actually she has a real appreciation for a bit slower cast. She can make that little rod just about dance, so therefore my Dad has renegged one me and told me to "Give that little sweetie of mine (to wit my WIFE) that rod that I gave you.
Thereby leaving me in the cold!!! (Suposed to be MY inheritance not "that little sweetie of mine's). :)
Fenwick rods a real nice rods. Not really premium as I understand the word BUT by no means somthing to be snubbed. I'll take all I can grab.
If you have a Fenwick, enjoy it, I do. Have both the old fiberglass and old graphite.
The first 2 fly rods I built were Fenwick's, I saved a lot of money to buy my first HMH rod. I used a Fenwick 7 weight for years. This is a great rod for casting big streamer patterns in the wind. I have also fished small creeks; you just have to slow down the cast. I have finally retired the rod since the guides are getting worn about through. One of these days I will take time to replace the guides.

I had a Fenwick HMG graphite back in the early 80's and liked it.Just bought my first Fenwick glass rod 2 weeks ago and im loving it so far.
I've got several and I like them all. The 5wt 8.5 ft. is a pip and has dealt with many a fine trout, bass, crappie, gill, yellow perch and a few steelhead. I made the 7 footer myself many years ago and it handles a 5 wt line ok and has caught tons of nice trout and bass. Finally, the 8 ft. 8wt. (I think) I picked up at a junk store for one dollar. It was home built at one time and they never even bothered to put finish on the wraps after the color preserver. This old rod is beat up but it's still a cannon and has caught a few fish but then I only carry it for backup or when I'm busting brush.
Those darn brown fenwicks are hard to beat. Many is the time I've tied into bigger fish and been glad they were on these glass rods.
Cheers,
