Oregon FAOLers
Hey all, I was over at a fellow (Fishnburger) FAOLers place today to look at a couple of rods he's working on, and we decided that we would head over the the 'boo thing at Camp Sherman together this next Saturday (the 15th). We're planning on hitting the show earlier on in the day, then heading out to go fish later in the afternoon. So, I thought this would be a great chance for us Oregon FAOLers to get together to look at some lovely rods and get some good fishing time in, and mostly, just get to meet each other face to face. Feel free to email me about this. Hope to see ya there.
Regards,
Joe Martin

Photojoe4;
Although it's to far for me I think that your effort to put faces to names is out standing! I have found that the good friend's made here are even greater in person. Follow up with a report on how it goes.

Don't forget the Michigan Fish-In August 14th to the 20th. The Holy Water's of the Au Sable await you!!

Oregon FAOLrs, Im the one Joe got together with. He didnt mention but we would also at some point like to do an Oregon fishin. Anyway if anyone else in Oregon is going to the show, email either Joe or myself so we can put names to faces
-
did either of you fellows make the Davis Lake gathering in June? There were 60-70 of us there. Thoughts of doing it again next year.
I have never fished the MEtolius and I have heard the the bamboo show is incredible. Maybe I will drive over there this year for the show. I get my first bamboo rod on Monday.

Oregon, Oh your making me crazy. I live in Southern California and expect that the escrow on the house I bought on the North Umpqua river will be closing this weekend.

It's about one mile up from the Winchester dam and fish ladder.
http://www.bishopweb.com/photos/data...ish_ladder.jpg The worse part is that I have to wait (possibly 4 years)before I can move up there.

Gardenfish-
Nope, I couldn't make the Davis Lake thing, I had to work. As far as hitting the Metolius, well, it's right there, so we'll probably hit that first. But with the bamboo show going on, I imagine it's going to be pretty packed. There was talk of hitting the Santiam, but no real concrete plans...

Don't worry, we'll save some fish for you http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif Sounds like we're going to have to meet up at your place when you get moved in!
Jack-
I'll definitely post a report!

I've got to make the CS Boo event one of these years. I've got a trip planned to CA this weekend so will miss it again. I would imagine the works of art at this event are a bit breathtaking. Of course if I did attend ... I'd be robbing next months grocery budget to order a Kusse boo. Capture some images and post em for us absentees!
-
I plan on going... meeting up with some Westfly folks for lunch at the CS store...
Later,
Peter

I cant make to the show but I would deffinatly be into an Oregon fishin.

Sorry you guys are missing the event... one of the very BEST... in the west. Certainly far beyond anything CA has ever attempted. You will miss a lot of education.
-
Sometimes there is no place I would rather be than sitting on the front step of the Camp Sherman store, smelling the pines and listening to the river. I can see the flies now rising from the river and showing in the sunbeams through the trees. Pure heaven. You lucky dogs.

The Metolius is one of the prettiest places in Oregon. It is a little overdeveloped for my taste with Camp Sherman there, but it's been that way for a long, long time. It's the right time of year to be there too, good stable weather.
-
Is Camp Sherman just past Sisters/before the pass (coming from the Bend area)? We took a trip up there, saw the head, and I fished and caught my first bullies down in the fishing zone.
Will be heading back out sometime next month as my old lady will be doing a 4-week rotation @ OHSU and I'll be left to fish for a week.
Take care y'all! Can't wait to get into more bulls and chunky bows out there!!!

MFTG - If you are comming from Bend, yes, Camp Sherman is just past Sisters on HWY 22. About 9 miles north on the highway you will see a sign indicating the cuttoff to Camp Sherman (West). A few miles down the red lava paved road will be Camp Sherman. It is not hard to meet and it is right on the river. Most fishing is done further up the road towards the hatchery. Good luck, Jonzee
-
Marty if you are going to be in that area for a week you might want to try the Fall River also. It is south of Bend about 15 miles.

My bamboo rod came so I surely MUST attend. I am going down to the river shortly to give it a try. So what happens if I get hooked on bamboo?
YEs, the Metolius is a lovely river. I am always amazed to see it burbling out of the ground and off it goes. Fantastic place.

I got a bunch of fish on the Fall! Having fished a spring creek much as a kid, I figured on lots of zebra midges. For once, I was right.
I even managed a few on small BWOs right behind the hatchery (and not in the tanks, mind you!). Biggest was a 15" rainbow that pounced on a rusty size 20 zebra midge from about 5 ft away. Lots of pretty, pretty fish, I got into several small browns that day and had a blast.
When and where is the Deschutes open in August? I plan on getting out around Maupin and steelheading a bit.

Marty I believe the whole river is open in August. The upper part closes in October.

EH- thanks. I'll post before I come out and maybe some of yous guys wouldn't mind schooling this east-coaster.

'Cheeto's',,, ya gotta have 'Cheeto's'!
(those who know, know!)
-
You can purchase the Cheeto's at the camp Sherman store. All those with organge fingers are tell-tail, they actually have those little machines like you find at the hatchery's, put a quarter in, get a handfull of fish food.

Some of you may find this useful...

Well, for those who'll be able to make it, I'll be the lanky young bearded guy with glasses, probably wearing my brown fishing hat. I'll probably have a bunch of drool dripping off my chin from looking at all the lovely rods (of course, I probably won't be the only one there with this affliction). Look forward to meeting some of you.

Looks like Saturday is opening up for me so I'll be heading over to Camp Sherman for the day. I've got a feeling that if you're going to fish the Metolius you'd better bring your own rock. ;o)

Thought I'd give this one last bump for those interested.
