sanding off the blank
OK, if I missed this on the previous posts about sanding grips, please excuse, but I made a grip from rings, shaped it OK, but would like to use my neighbors bench vise, put my drill in it, and sand the grip with that setup. Will this work, and how can I attach the grip to something to attach to the drill.

Yes it will work, just be careful and all that stuff.... As for how, the simplest method I've read about would be to go to the hardware store, get an appropriately sized piece of threaded rod, some nuts, and washers, slide the rod through the cork, place some washers and nuts on the rod, tighten to hold the cork firmly, put the threaded rod into the drill chuck, and go-to-town...
I've seen pics posted of this method being done with no vise, just 2 hands, I've not tried it yet but it is said to work well enough.

Is it already on the rod blank?????? If it is RGLs idea wont work. BILL

most of the rods that i build have been done after the corks have been assembled on the blank ---i go outside on the porch and use a "4 in hand" file/rasp combo and work it totally by hand---mine are for me and are form fit to my hand many times with thumb flats and a 80 grit finish

I guess you could consider forming the grip on a blank part of the rod building process, but I just decided to build the grip without having the rod, hence the necessity of finishing it without it being on a blank. The idea of putting the steel rod through it sounds good, that would hold the grip in place.
