Got most of the stuff to tie these from Wapsi at SowBug.
Decided it was time to do it so I tied up half a dozen to see how they work on panfish.

These are great for Sunfish and trout. I use them as my lead fly (tied to the leader, w/other flies tied of the hook bend) instead of split shot to get down deep.
On one lucky day, I pulled 4 trout out of the same hole on 5 drifts with a copper john.
This little hummer fell victim to a ratty Zebra John (silver and black wire) a week ago!

NICE!
Hey Jack,
I thought you said (on another forum) you caught it on an old ratty bead-head PT nymph http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/biggrin.gif. Like to see a photo of that old ratty fly (PT or Zebra John) if possible http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif.

You know, Dixie, I believe you're right! I did say that! Old age just catching up I guess. That P.T. is history but this ugly thing worked just as well and caught equal fishes out of the pond... be careful though... it could hurt your eyes!
and you have to promise not to laugh!
Did I say 'ratty'?

Jack, don't you think the addition of the legs was crucial? IME, panfish really go for rubber legged things.
Thanks, Jack. Now I'm not wondering anymore. Hey, if it works, who cares what it looks like. Sometimes the ugliest, oldest, and tattered flies work best. Looks like a winner to me http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/biggrin.gif.
P.S.
After catching that 11-1/2" rascal, I'm not laughing at the fly that got it. Just smiling http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif. Don't have to wear my UV glasses (that's ugly vision, not ultra violet) to look at it. Fly doesn't look too bad after being eaten. You should see some of mine after about 20 or 30 fish and I tie them to be as durable as I can. Eyes missing, legs missing, chewed up, and pieces hanging off. They will still catch fish.
