question about combination of fly lines and rods.
Hello everyone,
I've got a question about a combination of a fly rod and a good fly line.
I am using a st. Croix Legend Ultra #5 9ft in combination with a Cortland 444 SL Rocket taper.
I think this is a good combination, but is there perhaps a better combination possible?
What do you think, is this a good combination or can give anyone give advise what a good fly line is to use at a Legend Ultra.
This rod and fly line combination is mostly used for pond fishing where I try to catch some rainbow trout.
Thanks in advance.
Re: question about combination of fly lines and rods.
is that rod fast or ultra fast??? that would help pin this down
if it was fast then i would suggest something to fully load that rod better like a scientific anglers mastery series gpx or a rio grand
and if it was a slower rod i would suggest the scientific anglers mastery series trout or a rio selective trout 8)
i dont have much experience with cortland and i bought there spring creek line for my three weight the olive one 444 and i hated it :? sorry guys my opinion
Re: question about combination of fly lines and rods.
It's a fast rod.
Sometimes i've got the feeling that my rod is not fully loaded.
Thanks for your information.
I will try a SA mastery series line.
Re: question about combination of fly lines and rods.
yea that gpx is a half a line weight heavier than normal and should solve your problem 8)
Re: question about combination of fly lines and rods.
Depending on the rod, sometimes they respond better with a half up or half down. Sometimes a full up. I have a 5 wt bamboo that loves 6 wt sylk. It works all right with a 5 wt, but it really reponds best with the 6.
