I have the pattern for the october caddis but I am a little confused the pattern I have calls for a size 6 & 8 hook. Are they really this big or is this a miss print. What size do most of you tie for the fly

Harley,
The ones I've seen are really that big. I've only seen a few, but they were quite large.
My best,
Mark
Yes october caddis (Dicosmoecus) really are that big.

They're that big. I have a medium sized one pinned up and I can send you a pic if you need. But the bigger ones I saw last year, easily around 1.5"-2" (wing length, body about 1/4-1/3 shorter) and very robust bright orange bodies. Like the size of your pinky finger in diameter. They look like bigger moths flying around....
I just measured an adult and it is exactly 1 inch from head to tail. The body is a dull orange and the wing is gray.
I still remember my last fish caught on a dry last year. I tossed an orange stimmy 70 ft straight upsteam. One little twitch and a beautiful cutt nailed it.
Can't wait for spring!
Nice tie young Nick.
