This Day in History
On August 14, 1945, it was announced that Japan had surrendered unconditionally to the Allies, effectively ending World War II. Since then, both August 14 and August 15 have been known as "Victory over Japan Day," or simply "V-J Day."
The term has also been used for September 2, 1945, when Japan's formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, anchored in Tokyo Bay. Coming several months after the surrender of Nazi Germany, Japan's capitulation in the Pacific brought six years of hostilities to a final and highly anticipated close.
Much appreciation and many thanks to all who served or had love ones who served, "All gave some, some gave all."

Very cool.
A few weeks ago I met a gentleman that was a submariner in the Pacific during WWII. What a treat. Wish I could have spent more time talking with him.

Thanks Uncle Jesse and if anyone wants to spend time talking with WWII vets, visit the VA hospital if you have one near and they'll be glad to see anyone that stops in.
Cheers,

Thanks for the reminder!
I got to visit Pearl Harbor last Spring and toured the USS Missouri and got to see where the document was signed. Very cool indeed!

And darm, that WAS the war that should have ended war. We just don't learn. Thanks to all who served then - and serve now. We won't make it without you!

I had three Uncles, Great Uncles actually, in the Pacific during W.W.II. They were indeed brothers as well. Two were Navy and one was Army but all saw very heavy action. All three involved in the return to the Philippines along with many other battles. Thankfully all three make it home safe and sound after the war.
