Maybe another new fly pattern.
I wanted to find a good pattern to represent a Catalpa Worm, which is deadly bait around here. After an extensive search on the web, all I found were variations of a chartruese and black Wooley Bugger. After a few false starts, I designed this pattern. It really looks like a Catalpa Worm, especially in the water.

Here's another view showing the stripe on top.

On the second fly, I tried to add legs to the front. I don't know which is better. I caught fish on both of them today.

I tied them using the Granny-Weave method with chartruese and black strands of Micro Chennille from Cabelas. I used a size 8 Mustad #37160 Hook. It's the same hook that is usually used for a San Juan Bow Worm. That's where I got the idea.
I can't find anything that looks like these on the net. Y'all think this might be a new pattern?

I think it is Biot Midge that ties a fly like that but with some rubber legs on it.
I will have to check to be sure it was him.

Rick is right. Steve (Biot Midge) ties a fly called a Granny Weave Bug. They are gold or copper beadhead flies with black rubber legs tied behind the beadhead and above the hook shank splayed sort of like a Bully Spider. Short white Antron yarn tail. I have tied them in two sizes, #10 and #12. Two colors also. I use Needloft Nylon Canvas Yarn. I half the amount of material used on the size 10 when tying the size 12. Steve says the Shellcrackers like them so you know I just have to try them :). So far I've only caught a small LMB on the size 12 Black/Yellow Chartreuse. Steve's examples probably look better than mine. :tieone:

Nice Granny Weave Catalpa Worm Fly by the way :). I'm sure it works well especially when the worms are present and falling out of the trees down into the water.
