Bamboozle..........
Gehrke?s Gink originally came in a paste form. I?m not sure that it is still sold but it was GREAT stuff.
Re: Paste Floatant Choices
I started using Umpqua's "Dave's Bug Flote" as recommended by Sport'smans Warehouse. Cool little bottle with a chain attached. I can tell you, no matter how warm it gets, this stuff does not liquify. I love it!
Re: Paste Floatant Choices
dunno the brand, but I have something that comes in a small round orange container (I'll check to see if the manufacturer's name is on the container when I get home). works great and as you described. I just got some of the solid stuff made by Loon but haven't tried it yet since I still have a little bit of the other stuff left...
come to think of it, this post was probably not all that helpful to you...
Re: Paste Floatant Choices
Howdy Bamb - I share your pain! I've got an old vest that has a pocket that has been "treated" with silicone Mucillin. :( This is the only stuff I can think of that may work for you:

If I were you, I'd keep it in a zip lock bag until you know it can be trusted not to liquify and run all over the rest of your stuff in the myran box. I'll be out in State College on Friday, and I'll stop in at Fly Fisher's Paradise to see if they have any in stock. I'll grab two if they have it, and give one to you......Ed
Re: Paste Floatant Choices
I like Cortland in the orange plastic tub. Effective and relatively inexpensive.
Best,

Re: Paste Floatant Choices
Will - Since you're from Florida (gotta get hot there!), does the Dab stuff from Cortland liquify when it gets hot? Inquiring minds want to know.......Ed

Ed:
Thanks for the offer on the Loon. It looks like it may just work. I can tell once I give it the "trunk on a hot day" test. Dap is OK but it has a consistency that is a bit tackier than regular paste. I also used to have some stuff made of deer tallow but it smelled rancid all the time.
I was in a fantastic fly shop in Indianapolis this past weekend but forgot to look for floatant. I guess considering our local slim pickings; I was so overwhelmed to actually see stuff that I forgot what I needed.
BTW if you are ever in Indy, pay a visit to Flymasters.
Re: Paste Floatant Choices
Bamboozle,
When I can't find Red Tin Mucellin, I use the Loon Payette. It's been in my vest pocket for a couple of years now and hasn't liquified or leaked all over he place. Still works too.

I have one of those paste containers. It's still full of the original Gink floatant, and smaller in diameter than my Mucilin but thicker. I bought it in 1974 and it still works great.
